Issue No.27   "No one can possibly achieve success in the world by conforming to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking."

Although conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking can provide so much useful experience which prevents us from rashness, however, in order to achieve success and make great progress one should not conform to the experience.

We should not throw away conventional experience when we are striving to make new progress or discoveries. Old experience and achievements are wisdoms and wealth of human beings, no one can master all knowledge and have enough wisdom to overcome every new problem, as was described by Newton, he stood on the shoulders of giant, and only through this way, he succeeded in concluding three famous mechanic laws which made breakthrough in the field of physics.

However, the societies are changing so rapidly, there is no practice and way of thinking can be always true and practicable. Since no one can foresee the future exactly and form a permanently correct way of thinking or theory. Still take Newton for example; his famous laws can not appear as correct as it used to be to Einstein. Therefore, it was Einstein who broke the boundaries to think and observe in a new oriental way, and then found out the famous formula " E=mc^ " which also was a breakthrough. Another famous example is Aristotle, who was a famous mathematician, poet, physicist, physiologist, etc, in his time, however, his theory that two different weights fall at different speed was proved by Galileo to be wrong. Galileo did not follow conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking, on the contrary, he began to conduct experiments and also he was the first one who turned the telescope to the sky and succeeded to conclude the new theory that the earth revolved around the sun, which raised his famous crush with Institution.

Moreover, one need courage and free oneself from the confine of conventional experience while also take advantages of it and form a new way of thinking. Ford, the person who introduced assembly line to the factories last century, was a typical example of the successor who maintain a balance between tradition and modernization. The assembly line which increased efficiency a lot is not something that contradicts with tradition; instead, it followed the old way to produce. What Ford did was just to divide the old procedure and then put them together in a new way, there was nothing too unusual, but we have to admit that Ford achieved the success by freeing his brain from the conventional ways of thinking. So, only one has the courage to jump out the boundaries and have critical thinking, can one succeed eventually.

In sum, success calls for both experience and the courage to break the traditional boundaries, therefore, in order to achieve success, we should learn to use the experience in a correct way while keep a critical attitude toward conventional practices and ways of thinking.
