Issue 36 the greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.
个人的伟大之处应当由后人评价,而不是同时代的人。
I fundamentally agree with this incisive idea that it is only those of later generations rather than contemporaries that can decide the greatness of historical figures(好). Due to the comparatively narrow perspective in history(?), subjectivity originated from interest involvement and sometimes even intended intervention from (intended intervention from?) those influential figures, the evaluation of contemporaries is seldom, if ever, to be an objective, impartial and scientific one. (is seldom, if ever, objective, impartial, or scientific)
For any individual in any time, his/her perspective is always relatively narrowed and limited compared with that of next generations. It is not only because of the limitation in knowledge and science of that time, but also because of some dominant social ideologies, conventions and beliefs which are proved to be obsolete or even absurd in later days (除了it is在这里不太爽以外其他都perfect). Obviously, under such a narrow perspective, any contemporary’s evaluation about historical figures can hardly be ensured scientific and objective, no matter what attempt they make (同时代的人还没有变成historic figure). For example, a princess in ancient China in the tenth century invented a way to tie her feet with cloth in order to make her feet smaller and more beautiful. No other things are more absurd than it, in the eyes of modern people(?). But in the (such) cultural circumstance of that time in China, this princess was regarded as a moral model for all women (comma) and almost all ancient Chinese women were forced to model(?) her and tied their feet until the early twentieth century (有一个忌讳叫做and太多). Therefore, only when these historical figures have gone away, (这里怎么能有逗号??)can people gradually break away from (from?)the control of the narrow perspective and thus draw a relatively correct and objective conclusion about the greatness of historical figures.
(和上一段比起来连得不太好)Many individuals, especial those famous historical figures, are always associated with the benefits of their contemporaries. Their thoughts and behaviors, sometimes benefit some people greatly in certain place, and at the same time(放到这句的最后), severely harm other people elsewhere. When this kind of interest involvement came up, it is impossible to require those involved to evaluate the greatness of these individuals in a manner of objective and impartial(objectivity and impartiality啊). When Napoleon was alive, the French admired him as a superman and national hero while in the eyes of the British or the Russian,he was definitely a ghost. Obviously, the two sides’ evaluation was severely influenced by their actual benefits and both are not objective. Only after the death of Napoleon, a relatively objective and just one can be attained. (例子不错)
Moreover, some powerful individuals who concerns about their reputation, always tend to purposively intervene their contemporaries’ evaluation about themselves. This occurs quite often in some political figures, who have enough resources to influence or even change people’s idea. Sadam, the former dictator in Iraq, is such an example. To record and display his great “achievements”, he constructed countless statues for himself. He controlled the whole educational system and all the media in order to imbue the Iraqi with the idea that Sadam is the greatest man in the world. There is no doubt that more or less, many Iraqi’s evaluation would be affected by such a intense ideologizing education. Maybe Sadam is not a good example (?!!)because he has been overthrew and much truth can be revealed to those victims of ideologizing education, but there were many famous historical figures who successfully affected their contemporaries in human history. (自己不要打自己的嘴巴子)Therefore, when considering those contemporaries’ evaluation about historical figures, we must take into account the possible man-made influences imposed by these powerful figures.
In conclusion, it is too early to decide the greatness of individuals for any contemporary people. Unfortunately, though many people know this, still there are many people today who are engaged in such a fruitless work. (结尾再improve一下咯)(604 words)
