写的有点乱,大家看看。issue40

40. “Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the large society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem.”

Nowadays, there increasingly arises much concern about whether scholars and researchers should be judged by their contribution to society or not. As the assertion presented by speaker, some people claim that pursuing individual interest in scientific field is more important than contribution to be involved in this specific issue. I agree with the speaker that scientists should enjoy academic freedom.

To begin with, as a popular saying goes “ interest is one of the best teachers”, interest is the prime impetus for individual to make progresses forward, which should not be erase, ignored, or played down. Namely, individual interests can lead workers, including scholars and researches, work effectively and efficiently, and can inspire one’s originality and creativity. For instance, Einstein, a famous scientist in 20th century, once said (and I paraphrase) that it is his interest in physics that gave him inspiration to create. And Einstein also said that if he had not the extraordinary interest in theoretical physics, he could bring out the theory of relativity. On the contrary, if every task is put into operation without passionate interest, you can readily image a nightmare in which everyone is forced to work and there will not occur a gleam of original mind. Consequently, it is important for people to enjoy their individual interest.

On the second hand, since nothing can show its value since its origin, it is unwise to evaluate individual greatness only through his or her immediate contributions. There are many works that individual passionately engages in, which gradually show their value in the latter time. For example, when Einstein presented the theory of relativity, no one can tell what we can get from the theory of relativity. After many years, in the Second World War, under the guidance of Einstein’s theory, we build atom bomb, which helped us overcome Fascism. Latter, Einstein’s theory helped us build nuclear power plant, which solved the energy problem. And recently, from Einstein’s theory helped us form the Big Band Theory, which answered the problem about when and how the universe generated. Can we neglect the importance of Einstein interest in the beginning of the theory of relativity? Obviously, the answer is No. Accordingly, we should not judge individual greatness only through whether his or her research can lead to contributions to society without the regard of individual interest.

In the third analysis, the individual interest and social contribution are not mutually exclusive. First, in art, it was the interest of Beethoven that helped Beethoven conquer the deafness and continue creating compositions, which formed a transition from classical to romantic composition. It is the interest of Picasso that motivated Picasso to make countless creations, which are now viewed as masterworks. In science, it was the interest of Edison that brought out the emergence of lamp bulb. And it is the interest of Archimedes, the great thinker, which gave him inspiration to establish the principle of buoyancy when Archimedes was taking bath. From the analysis, one can look no far to find that many achievements in human civilization came from individual interests.

In sum, if scholars and researchers are only concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the large society without the consideration of individual interest, which acts as the key in individual achievements, the situation will turn to be unfavorable. Furthermore, individual interest can accelerate the step, which society marches. And hence, letting scholars and researchers enjoy merited freedom to pursue their individual interest is reasonable and necessary.

I agree with the speaker that scientists should enjoy academic freedom.(academic freedom指的是什么啊)

To begin with, as a popular saying goes “ interest is one of the best teachers”, interest is the prime impetus for individual to make progresses forward, which should not be erase, ignored, or played down(downplayed). And Einstein also said that if he had not the extraordinary interest in theoretical physics, he could (是couldn’t have吧?)bring out the theory of relativity. On the contrary, if every task is put into operation without passionate interest, you can readily image a nightmare in which everyone is forced to work and there will not occur a gleam of original mind. Consequently, it is important for people to enjoy their individual interest. 还不错。

On the second hand(没有这种说法吧?难道还有third hand?), since nothing can show its value since its origin(its指代谁?), it is unwise to evaluate individual greatness only through his or her immediate contributions. There are many works that individual passionately engages in, which gradually show their value in the latter time(可以用immediate contribution作主语写这个句子,sole criterion做宾语). For example, when Einstein presented the theory of relativity, no one can tell what we can get from the theory of relativity. After many years, in the Second World War, under the guidance of Einstein’s theory, we build(?) atom bomb, which helped us overcome Fascism. Latter, Einstein’s theory helped us build nuclear power plant, which solved the energy problem. And recently, from Einstein’s theory helped us form the Big Band(Bang) Theory, which answered the problem about when and how the universe generated. Can we neglect the importance of Einstein interest in the beginning of the theory of relativity? Obviously, the answer is No. Accordingly, we should not judge individual greatness only through whether his or her research can lead to contributions to society without the regard of individual interest.感觉说服力尚有待加强,狂举Einstein的话有cliché的感觉.

And it is the interest of Archimedes, the great thinker, which gave him inspiration to establish the principle of buoyancy when Archimedes was taking bath. From the analysis, one can look no far to find that many achievements in human civilization came from individual interests. (堆砌例子,根本没有体现出自己的分析)

In sum, if scholars and researchers are only concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the large society without the consideration of individual interest, which acts as the key in individual achievements, the situation will turn to be unfavorable. Furthermore, individual interest can accelerate the step, which society marches. And hence, letting scholars and researchers enjoy merited freedom to pursue their individual interest is reasonable and necessary.(结尾这么多是不是太啰嗦了,感觉不舒服的)

thank you imong!
but i have some words about my issue to say as follows:

40. “Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the large society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem.”

As the assertion presented by speaker, some people claim that pursuing individual interest in scientific field is more important than contribution to be involved in this specific issue. I agree with the speaker that scientists should enjoy academic freedom.(academic freedom指的是什么啊) 加上to pursue individual interests主题句

To begin with, as a popular saying goes “ interest is one of the best teachers”, interest is the prime impetus for individual to make progresses forward, which should not be erase, ignored, or played down(downplayed).你确定吗??是downplayed? Namely, individual interests can lead workers, including scholars and researches, work effectively and efficiently, and can inspire one’s originality and creativity. For instance, Einstein, a famous scientist in 20th century, once said (and I paraphrase) that it is his interest in physics that gave him inspiration to create. On the second hand(没有这种说法吧?难道还有third hand?)tomatoeggs说有,这个我也不知道。以前我是用on the second place, since nothing can show value since origin, it is unwise to evaluate individual greatness only through his or her immediate contributions. And hence, scholars and researcher should not only be concerned with whether their works can make contribution to society There are many works that individual passionately engages in, which gradually show their value in the latter time(可以用immediate contribution作主语写这个句子,sole criterion做宾语). Obviously, the answer is No. Accordingly, we should not judge individual greatness only through whether his or her research can lead to contributions to society without the regard of individual interest.感觉说服力尚有待加强,狂举Einstein的话有cliché的感觉.这个地方确实有待改进。

In the third analysis, the individual interest and social contribution are not mutually exclusive.[color] First, in art, it was the interest of Beethoven that helped Beethoven conquer the deafness and continue creating compositions, which formed a transition from classical to romantic composition. From the analysis, one can look no far to find that many achievements in human civilization came from individual interests.前后不是分析了吗??个人兴趣可以带了社会效应的观点。 (堆砌例子,根本没有体现出自己的分析)

In sum, if scholars and researchers are only concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the large society without the consideration of individual interest, which acts as the key in individual achievements, the situation will turn to be unfavorable. 呼应第一,2段 Furthermore, individual interest can accelerate the step, which society marches. 对3段再说一边And hence, letting scholars and researchers enjoy merited freedom to pursue their individual interest is reasonable and necessary. 总结语(结尾这么多是不是太啰嗦了,感觉不舒服的)
In my opinion, i point my view out clearly.
examples suppot my point strongly
logic also exists in this artical
is it easy to grasp the core of my issue to know what i want to say?
Admittedly, i should make progressive strides forward. Especially, when i use example to support my perspective, i should learn to how to add my own words.
thank you imong again!
