The speaker, by saying that originality does not mean thinking something that has never been thought before, instead, it means putting old ideas together, makes a fundamental mistake that he takes the very nature of originality too arbitrary and thus goes to extremes. In my point of view, whether the originality is something that never has been thought before deserves a case by case study.

First of all, we can never separate the originality from our past experience. Since originality means making something new, then no matter how original idea it is , it has to be based upon profound knowledge ,which is the very collection of past experience and old ideas. Were it not for the support offered by the basic knowledge ,any so-called originality is doomed to become fantasy. After all , the Law of Relativity didn’t pop out from the thin air, it has fundamental relation with the classical physics.

And our history abounds the evidence and example that some original invention did make up by the old ideas. Let’s consider, for example , the advent of airplanes. The very though of flying in the air like a bird had born for thousands of years but due to the lack of special knowledge in physics , biology , and engineering , this thought remains fantasy. It was the Latter(?) Brother that combined the knowledge in every required field as well as the fantasy and the desire of flying like a bird , made them a reality. It was just the same case regarding the invention of spacecraft and shuttle. Old experience and intelligence played an important role in the emergence of these creative inventions, the combination of various fields of knowledge and ideas in these cases do require excellent intelligence and profound creativity. But if originality only refers to the ability of putting different things together, then the pace of our human development would have been slackened considerably.

The thoughts that the sun lies at the center of our universe, that the time and space are relative concepts, that matter consists of discrete particles ,that human evolves from the other life forms, that light travels with velocity, that atom can be fission and radiated out power…are all nothing but crazy and absurd assumptions at their times, which has been detested and derided. Fortunately, all of these have been proven true and consequently leading our society into the Atom era, the Space era, etc. If these endeavors ,the endeavors of thinking something never thought before and making them a reality , could not deserve the title of originality , and the prize of creativity, then nothing can.

In sum ,the speaker has been too indiscriminated to say that originality only mean putting some already existed ideas together. Although originality is based on the awareness and experience of the past, and putting different things together really did make good inventions , we could not ignore the great contribution that the spirit of thinking something never thought before has provided. The sense of originality means the ability and spirit to invent, then what difference does it make when both solutions could equally make good inventions. After all, it is human being that finally benefits, then maybe we can put it this way: all the solution by which our humanity can benefit are called originality.

In sum , the speaker has been too indiscriminated（cynical） to say(assume) that originality only mean putting some already existed ideas together. Although originality is based on the awareness and experience of the past, and putting different things together really did make good inventions, we could not ignore the great contribution that the spirit of(不太明白) thinking something never thought before has provided. The sense of originality means the ability and spirit to invent（及物）, then what difference does it make when both solutions could equally make good inventions.（？） After all, it is human being that finally benefits, （then） maybe we can put it this way: all the solution（s） by which our humanity can benefit are called originality.
