谢谢各位大虾, 我忘了在word里面改一下,不好意思,我现在略微作了一下改动.
I strongly disagree with the speaker's statement that those so-called nonmainstream areas of inquiry can do its work on behalf of humans at any rate. In my point of view, if such pseudo-sciences as astrology, fortune-telling, psychic and paranormal pursuits play a role in the human lives.
First of all, the speaker has wrongly put these superstitions that appear in the opposite site of sciences in the position paralleling to that of mainstream sciences. According the statement of the arguer, it seems to me that he has characterized superstition as a complement of science. However, during the history of human society, man has consistently been going along an endless war against superstitions. Superstition tends to prevent truth and realty from people while science wants to reveal them to the public. In a word, superstitions turn to some inscrutable supernatural forces instead of rational methods that sciences seek. (是太空洞了,我也想找个例子,但我实在想不出来)
One main allegation of some people is that they can get pleasure out of these practices. However, if solace and comfort are how we judge the worth of something, then consider that tobacco brings solace and comfort to smokers, alcohol brings it to drinkers, and drugs brings it to addicts, and as such, superstition can do great harm to those who seek pleasure from it. For example, those who believe in magical methods of preventing and curing diseases often do not turn to proper methods till it is too late; those who believe that disasters are results of some invisible power do not search for rational ways of preventing and ameliorating their effects.
Also, many may strongly argue that it is nevertheless their own bodies, their own health, and their own lives to do with, as they wish, not someone else's. Who are we to be ‘big brother’ to condemn their way of life. Then, what of the superstition believers who lure others to give themselves up to the supernatural forces? What of those paranoiacs who insist on helping people to release from suffering by killing them? Clearly, it is not merely the practitioner's body, health, and life involved. (这一段可能有点模糊, 我想表达的是不仅他们自己受到伤害)
In sum, it is obvious that such superstitious area of inquiry can perform serious damages to both the practitioners and other people. As a result, we have a call to carry out a war against it and never give up. |
