The government should support scientific research that does not have any
practical use.
In the recent years, NASA has announced a myriad of researches about the Mars and other planets, some of these
such as “there may be water on the surface of the Mars “,or “a new meter is approaching to the Earth” ,some people complain that these researches have no practical use, and why government waste money on these issues, isn’t
better for government to support medical care and education which are directly conducive to our quality of life? As far I’m concerned, it is necessary for government to fund these scientific researches, even though they may not benefit individuals immediately.
First and foremost, scientific research plays a crucial role in the long-term development of human society. For example. The discovery of possible presence of water in Mars can solve water shortage in the Earth, the exploration of planets outside our solar system may create a new habitat for human. Nevertheless, the possible benefits of these researches are still uncertain, so that’s why government should spend money on these projects to figure them out.
In addition ,supporting scientific researches allows individuals know more knowledge about the planet we live. For instance, archeologists study the past living patterns of our ancestors, the biologists conduct researches to get know the reason of change routes of birds immigration; the mathematicians draw formulations to solve complex math problems. All of those will impart knowledge about history, biology and science to us, and thus we become well-educated and have a good sense of scientific facts. In contrast, if no researches have done in these fields, we will just behave and think in the same way in which our ancient ancestors did, like regarding the eclipse as the symbol of god’s punishment ,the occur of dry season due to our offense towards a specific deity. In this case, our society won’t become so highly developed and advanced.
However, it doesn’t follow that most of the money should be use in researches, It is a unshakeable duty for government to improve our life conditions. Imagine that if there are a vast of areas still lacking the source of clear water, a sick child who lives in remote areas don not have access to have a treatment in the hospital, and poor valley primary schools have a urge need for teachers, how could government pay attention to unpractical researches regardless of
these fateful problems? thus the government has to make a balance between the cost of scientific research and directly beneficial social
services in its financial budget.
In a nutshell , it’s possible that the scientific research will turn to some good outcomes to our society , and form the results of these researches , individuals can acquire a comprehensive knowledge about our planet, therefore I firmly believe that government should support the scientific research that don’t have any practical use.
