I don’t agree that always telling the truth is the mostsignificant consideration in any relationship. In fact, I think whether weshould tell the truth or not depend on which relationship you are engaged in.

First, you must tell your boss exactly what things aregetting along in your work. If you don’t tell the real problem being faced in aproject to your boss, you might make the company miss the best time to solvethis problem. Because you boss could not make correct decision in time. Whileyou couldn’t tell the problem to your friend if he or she is working for yourcompete company even though he or she is your best friend. In this case, it’srelated to the commercial secrets. Sometimes it might be illegal, not just losinginterests.

Second, you also cannot tell a child that his painting orthe song he’s singing is bad. You might disappoint him. For example, when I wasa little girl, I was scorned by other kids for my old dress. From then on, Ihave been afraid to talk with other people because of the loss of confidence.Thus, in the relationship between adults and kids we should keep some secretsfor them.

Finally, diplomats always avoid telling the truth when theyare dealing with important affairs with other country. The country’sconfidential information can not be disclosed to other countries, or it willendanger the country’s condition.

In general, we should tell the truth if this acting canhelp us handle things better. But we shouldn’t if it makes our country orcompany or children loss interests.
