Tpo 12 综合写作
In the lecture, the professor completely refutes the passage which claims that the portrait of teenager is Jane Austen herself.
Though the passage mentions that Austen's family gave permission to use the painting as a portrait of the famous author, the professor states that 70 years has passed since Austen's death when her family members endorse this portrait is Austen, which means they may never virtually see the writer themselves. So their words are not convincing.
In contrast to the reading which argues that the face in the portrait resembles the one in Cassandra's sketch, the professor asserts that it is possibly a relative of Austen who is in the painting. Austen's family is a large one, and the true subject of the portrait can chance to be her cousin in teenager.
Last but not the least, the style of the painting is not an exact evidence to show that the painting is the work of Ozias Humphrey. The lecturer point out that it was possibly a work by William Lag, who didn't sell canvas in London until Austen was older than the figure in this portrait.
独立写作 博学还是精于一科
The idea of focusing on specialized knowledge of specific subject has never appealed to me. Although some academic companies of mine live under the illusion that "Learn everything about something" is the key to success, I regard "Learn something about everything" as a better access to chase one's dream both in academic life and daily life.
The combination of different subjects is seen as the breakpoint of current science. According to the record of Nobel Prize, over 70 percent of the Nobel Prize Winner has a multi-discipline background in their university or on their research fields. Chemistry and science, Electronics and Computer science, Astronomy and Physics, all these subjects have a tendency to melt together. Seldom can a person get breakthrough in one specific subject, for scientific and technological level today is higher than any time in human history. Scientists can hardly make progress on former research results in single subject, so they try to develop new battlefield, interdisciplinary. If you fail to own broad knowledge of various subjects, you are probably falling behind others in discovering the world.
Furthermore, no evidence has shown that people have wider horizon about knowledge are uncompetitive in their majors. In fact, philosophy has taught us everything in the world are well related. Dan Vinci's anatomy knowledge helps him in analysis of the proportions of human body,
which best illustrate my ideas that there is a tight bond between different subjects. If the capacity of human brain can only afford to accommodate certain subject, then difficult it is for us to explain why encyclopedic scholars,
such as Aristotle, exist in our world.
There is another subtler reason why I choose to be a generalist, yet just as practical as the formers. People who are erudite get benefits from his knowledge in their daily life. As a father, he can tell stories in Jules Verne's novel to his son; as an inferior, he can repair the old television in his parents' house; as a workmate, he can ensure the safety of the Internet connection in your lab. Hardly can a person know everything like Doctor Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang theory, yet if you learn more about what is happening besides you, your life will be completely different.
Few things could attract me more than the advantages of owning broad knowledge of many academic subjects. It has always been a mystery to me why those people appreciate their wide range of knowledge, obstinately pretend that they would focus on certain subject.
