The reading material raises the issue that in order to reduce students' nonacademic stress, they should wear the same school uniform. However, this is strongly questioned by the speaker, who argues that the policy will have no significant effects.
First of all, the reading material says that the policy will make school more affordable for parents because students' clothing bill will go down drastically. In contrast, the speaker points out that students are still likely to spend lots of money on clothes. When they meet with their friends after school, they still need to wear fashionable clothes. Thus, their wardrobes will be full of clothes. By this way, the speaker contradicts the first point made in the passage.
Second, the reading passage claims that the policy will reduce discomfort and self-consciousness for teenagers. However, according to the speaker, this is not the case. Students will be worried about how they look if they do not have the chance to select clothes themselves and they will be puzzled about how to present themselves. Besides, they are likely to de-emphasize on other features which could make them more attractive. In this sense, the policy increases their discomfort. Thus the speaker refutes the second point in the reading passage.
Finally, the reading passage says that wearing the same uniform will reduce the amount of teasing and bullying among students, while the speaker believes the policy will not have such effect. From the speaker, students are in this particular stage of life and it is common for them to form groups and tease each other. Besides clothes, they could pick on other aspects, such as choice of music.
Therefore, the reading passage is totally challenged by the speaker.
