Normally, through our identification with social groups we can realize what are our recent statuses in the society, because every person belongs to a particular group in which he/she has the similar behavior and ideology with others , and this classification of groups constitutes the whole society, and then We know there upper groups as well as lower ones ,however , it is wrong for us to define ourselves merely through this identification.

AS we know, people in the same group may influence on each other . Our appearance or behavior will be conceived and amended before we impose them to the public in order to attain their acceptance or make sure that we are among those who have a similar status with us .Thus, some collective traits form in a particular group as everyone of it have the same purpose. These traits are varied , some are beneficial while many are harmful .Undoubtedly, if one form those harmful ones , it will hamper his development, so a solute identification with a group is an obstacle to our defining ourselves.

A rigid identification will restrain our ability of development. for instance ,the rich is a group , and the poor is another group contrary to the former . A man may be inborn rich or poor ,but will he remain this condition until his death?  If so, the rich will be rich generations to generations , and the poor will have no choice but continuing bear property. But it is not the case .There are too many examples in which a child whose family is too poor to afford his schooling become the president of a large company and a child is so rich but he become a beggar in the end. People in a low group will struggle for entering a higher one , and by hard work and insistence they are successful . On the contrary, one who ever stay in a high group will not be able to maintain this condition if he does not realize the changing world and keep on living a live without adventure and enterprise .

In addition, there are many groups prejudiced by the others , which reflect the inequality of the society .In the old ages, the black slaves of  America  suffered badly from their white compatriots ,they were belongings of the white, regarded as dolts  and have no freedom ,no matter rights . The white seems so stressful and unassailable that this slave mechanism existed till the middle of 19th century. However, the group of black slaves did not yield , with the help of some white men , finally they gained the liberty. Today in American , the black have the almost the same rights as the white ,  their status is being elevated , they are playing more and more important roles  and emitting their potency and wisdom in all aspects of social live. If they define themselves as what society classified, how could they have their present status and prove their potency?

However, without identification with social groups , we will not know what kind of person we are , so it is difficult for us to determine our direction of development what is more , there are many other methods with which we can define ourselves .With these methods combined with the identification , we can better be ourselves .
