As far as I'm concerned,the major cities may represent for the superficial characteristics of nation.Also,Towns and villages are indispensable parts reflecting the country's necessary features.

Admittedly,many outstanding issues and characteristics are embodied obviously from the major cities.City,generally,mixes the relatively advanced economic prospects,stable social environment and happy individual life together,which attribute to the progress of the country and indicate the nation's development situation.We may quote a single example of New York.The Big Apple,the business and financial capital of the world,can represent the most characteristic-the most advanced economy- of America thanks to its financial center,Wall Street,for its favorable location,excellent port facilities,and large populaton.

However,to look into the most characteristic of nation,it's unreasonable and one-sided to only investigate the major cities,rather than include the endemic towns and villages.As liken to the understanding of a subject,emphasising the essential and important knowledge may allow us pass the exam with ease;but if you desire to master the main points thoroughly of the course,the trival knowledge and details are supposed to consider earnestly.The common people,not usually affuent,are filled with the villages and towns.Indeed, major cultures and conventions are very likely to originate in these places,which reflect the most characteristic of many coutries as not all states feature the economy.Accordingly,it is the workers and peasants living in the rural districts rather than the menchants and white-collars walking through cities that may sketch the true potrayal of the society of nation.

The seemingly harmonious society in big cities among newspaper,broadcast and newscast tend not to be the  real phenomena which we should see and experience walking into the grass-roots to get some necessary and important information.Many children in rural areas can't afford to go to school which contribute to the common illitercay over the counryside.And the severe poverty is perpetuated through class discrimination and unequal opportunities between city and village.Illness and short life are also major problems exsiting there.All of these listed can't be largely spreaded in the inspiring and  beautiful news.How can we confirm the nation's the most characteristic by merely exploring major cities?  

Looking at the surface of major cities reduntly,therefore,could make us blind to the core of the issue.A nation possesses many states,a state possesses many cities,a city possesses many villages,and a village possesses many twons.That is,plenty of the small parts make the big one.When investigating the most characteristic of the big,it's the best and most reasonal method to grasp the feature of the smalls.
