I do agree with the perspective thatsandals are useful in the ways to focus the public attention better than anyother ways. Presses nowadays seeking for attractive, inviting and explosiveinformation in order to catch our eyes, makes scandal the incomparable choice. Curiosityas the human nature will benefit the society if we take the best use of it.
Scandal makes its way so easy to arouse thepublic discussion and concern, it can in some ways be explained that we are soeager to find out the weak-point of those alleged celebrities and the giantcorporations. To make it simple, we love gossips. We cannot wait to seepresident Obama acted embarrassed in front of the public, and scandals meetsthe natural curiosity of the majority of us. Also, thanks to the internet, scandals are quickly shared and browsed internationally. As the recent case ofZacoqi, the bribing from the giant enterprise in French which substantiatedonce helped him during the election was everywhere on the headline of theinternet homepages and newspapers.
Moreover, people care so much aboutscandals not only because of the curiosity, but also for the leading actor ofthe scandal, no matter it is an individual or a group, in some ways affects theinterest of the public. For instance, the "Sanlu powder milk scandal"in China last year, revealed the fact that illegal ingredients was added themilk for infants which cause to the "big-head syndrome". It isunassailable that the interest of the consumers are affected, fair to say thata family is ruined. It cannot be surprising that the trust to the brand is ininvocatable danger. The same as the leaders of the country, who were onceelected because of the trust and confidence from the public , people are moredisappointed and of indignation than holding the feeling of schadenfreude.Scandal allows the press and the public acting the role as an supervisor, aiding the law and the censorship, to ensure the interest of any individual inthe society.
Even if the scandal itself is a fake story,it can also be useful as an admonishment. There are possibilities that sandalsare fabricated by the opponents or exaggerated by the press, which misleads tothe public distain and indignation. Thus, the potential criminals may foreseethe dreadful consequence if they are the one on the trial, so that they maycease the malfeasance.
However, we must admit that in some ways, scandals can be misleading, arousing irrational public anger or dissent. Yearsago the French supermarket Carrefoir in China was spurned by Chinese consumersfor selling food out of date. The case itself was simply a food-safety scandal, having nothing to do with diplomatic crisis. However, due to the press’smisleading propaganda and the exaggerate by the cyber citizens, all Frenchbrands in China is in confidential danger at that time, which is obviously an anomaloussocial behavior.
Despite that scandal may has its side-effects,I still hold the view that scandal has its social positive influence as aremedy. |
