Scholars often fail to see that music played an important role in the preservation of African culture in the United States. They correctly note that slavery stripped some cultural elements from Black people-their political and economic systems-but they underestimate the significance of music in sustaining other African cultural values. African music, unlike the music of some other cultures, was based on a total vision of life in which music was not an isolated social domain. In African culture music was pervasive, serving not only religion, but all phases of life, including birth, death, work, and play. 楼主是想选C么？C选项里面有一个词是literally,是照字面，逐字的意思，而末句不是首句逐字的改写，还是有自己的一些意思的。

我感觉，第一句的结构毕竟是scholars fail to see，强调的是他们没注意到啊，但这句话的宾语才是这段话的中心，所以C选项说第一句概括了main idea就不对，这样就是说main idea是scholar fail to see
不知这样解释可否行得通
