1. I introduction of my background My name is XX. I'll get bachelor degree from XX University after four years’ study from 2008 to 2012, focusing on
psychology. In terms of school works, my GPA is 89.17 and I won the 2nd Level Scholarship twice. In terms of extracurricular works, I had become a volunteer in the Healing Center for Autistic Children founded by my professor for one and a half a year, evaluating and conducting psychology intervention to three children. After graduation, I am going to spend two years at XX University
to further my knowledge on educational psychology and to get a master degree.
2.
Why I choose this major
First of all, after being the volunteer, I have great interest in educational psychology. And some specialized courses I learned, such as EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY and PEDAGOGY, have reached a basis for study in this major. Secondly, educational psychology has extensive fields of employment in China, such as trainers for companies and evaluators in schools or educational services. For me, I'd like to be an evaluator in middle school or educational services. Thirdly, since Chinese government has increasingly paid attention on educational system, many schools and educational services have suffered from a shortage of professionals in the field of educational psychology. So they're creating many employments. Fourthly, my mother is a teacher in university, and several relatives of mine are working in educational field in China. They can provide many job opportunities for me in this field when I go back to China. 3.
Why I choose to study in the United States and in this university
Firstly, the United States is a country which marks the beginning of educational psychology in modern times with the publishing of Educational Psychology written by Edward
Thorndike. Over the years, research level and facilities in the United States for educational psychology are ranked top in the world.
It can help me build a solid foundation in my major.
Secondly,
since its founding as a teachertraining school in 1910, XX University has a long history in the field of education.
And it's also one of the first batch of universities that authorized by Chinese Government, so it will give me an advantage in finding job in China. Thirdly, educational psychology in XXUniversity puts one of their emphasis on evaluation because 12 credit hours of evaluation and measurement (EVAL) courses are required to be finished. It's in accord with my interest and employment orientation to be an evaluator. Moreover, they have an educational psychology lab, which directed by one professor in this department, to do experiments and researches. However, teaching level of educational psychology in Chinese universities is immature in both theory and practice. Therefore, I believe that I'm able to acquire knowledge in area of proposed study and research ability better in the US. 4.
Plan of study
In my future study in the United States, firstly, I will find a professor to be my advisor who can give me guidance on my study. Then, during the future two years, I will make utmost efforts to complete at lest 39 hours of graduate level coursework, including Educational Psychology
core courses such as Learning Theories, Research and Methodology courses such as Special Topics in Evaluation & Measurement, and Electives which I will decide according to my results, my interests and advisor's guidance. I'd like to participate in advisor's research projects if possible to learn research methods practically. I will also
discuss my thesis project with advisor regularly, prepare oral defence and obtain my Master’s degree successfully.
Through my efforts and rigorous training, I expect to acquire the major theoretical perspectives in educational psychology and capacity for independent research. In this way, I will have a solid foundation for becoming an evaluator who can undertake high-level research when returning to China.
5.
Employment goal and motivation which leads me to return to China
After graduation, I want to become an
evaluator in middle school or educational service in China. The reasons why I will return to China are the following points: first, well-educated and professional evaluators in China are really scarce, so it's possible for an graduate with master degree on educational psychology from an American university to find the job with 100,000 RMB or higher a year. And the salary will raise with the accumulation of working experience. I'm able to make a good living with this salary in my hometown, without thinking about the pressure of buying house and car. However, in the US, this annual salary is just about $50,000, without taking out high taxes and so on. I need to pay not only for daily expenses but for house and car independently. As the result, living standards in the US are not a patch on which in my hometown in China. Second, my parents and relatives who work in the field of education in China can provide me many job opportunities while I will lost this advantage in the US. It's hardly possible for a foreigner in the US to work in the local school or educational service because they prefer to employ natives rather than foreigner. 6 . My capital source and family’s support For my future study, I have deposited XXXXXX RMB in bank and bought a XXXXXX RMB insurance product, which are all from my parents. My family owns two houses and a car. Both of my parents have stable jobs and income. My mother is a
professor at X University of China
and my father is
working in XXXX. Their total income is above XXXXXX
RMB per year. My parents financially have done very well over the years.
My oversea study won’t have negative impact to my parents’ current lifestyle.
不知道为啥格式变得这么恶心。 我自己感觉写的有点长,怕VO看着烦,但是我又想尽可能细一些,所以一写就长了。 希望大家多提建议,看看有没有容易让VO抓住把柄问的地方。 先谢过啦! |
