The statement actually imply twofold meanings. One is that being forced to defending is the best way to explore and discover an idea, the other is that defending an idea is the only way to explore and appreciate an idea. In my view, both statements are incomplete.
Admittedly defending is an effecting(effective) way to appreciating (appreciate)an idea. For example, in some publications such as Public (多余)Interest(internet), some people release their essays, explaining(expressing) their views on some hot topics about contemporary lives. Then, perhaps, other people will give a reply and refute them with some contrary examples and bring about some different or contrary ideas. To defend their ideas, writers probably answer the replier with more convincing and persuasive explanations. Through these challenge some obscure elements become clear, some new facts are found and some new problem are explored and reconsidered then ideas becomes more valid and trustworthy. It’s the same truth in scientific realm, an idea must endure all kinds of challenge from every kinds of angles of experiments, a single contrary example will ruin the idea, so, a scientists must consider all contrary views and give reasonable explanation with further experiments and reasoning. Through depth(deep) exploration, ideas will be full and well developed.(例子很有说服力)
However defending and letting one’s idea received by the masses and governments are not the ultimate goal, the ultimate goal is grasping truth. In some sense, defending require both good reasoning ability and good idea. Winning a debate doesn’t mean your idea is the greatest one, other’s idea probably have some truth in it. Acknowledging and accepting these valid elements can make your idea perfect. So, being forced to defend and absorbing both play important role to discover the value of ideas.
As formulated above, defending is an effective way to explore idea, but it’s (去掉not) far more(far from) the only way to explore ideas. There is other method such as reading (加which)is equally important. Most people that challenge the idea are those who (加are)interested in this field, especially about some scientific topics, all these people come from a narrow circle, many idea are limited in their own field. Reading can widely accumulate much knowledge, those knowledge from other aspect can stimulate to reconsider his idea and make the idea more valid. (分句中间没有联接词,你要么架上,要么分成几个句子,我觉得分成几个用分号连接的分句可能对你比较有效)Moreover some challenges do little favor to(不知道有没这种用法,如果有的话,后面应该接动名词吧) appreciate idea. For example, when Einstein’s relativity theory was put forward, few people know the principle, not to mention challenge. There were some people rose some question, but these questions always were no pertinent with the Relativity. To make people understand his theory Einstein explained over and over about it. By doing this, it can’t improve the theory. In the process of establishing this theory, reading and thoughts contributed much. Further, through reading, one can compare his own thoughts with other’s ideas and facts supporting them, then will know will which place he stand and gain objective view about his own idea.(好想把爱因斯坦说得太神了,好像感觉他是不辞辛劳教化我们,向我们布道的耶稣,而且它应该也是在这个过程中才对自己的理论更加清晰,我的意见,可能你对他是比较崇拜)
In sum, to really appreciate the value of an idea there are many ways an individual can start doing so. As a consensus, defending the idea is usually a good practice, since inquires, doubts, and contrasting views generally places a challenge into someone's speech. However, one must not forget some other rewarding forms of appreciating a subject, such as reading substantially about a subject. Moreover acknowledging and accepting are equally important to discover the value of an idea. |
