Do you agree with the following statement? It is impossible to be completely honest with your friends.
Everyone knows the importance of staying true, especially with the ones you care about, like friends and families. But the question is: do you really want friends who are completely honest with you? A lot of people may say no, since they are fully aware of the pain and damage that honest words can cause.
Those who knows the pain will try hard to prevent their friends from having it. And that is the first reason why people cannot be a hundred percent honest with the ones they have a close relationship with. Sometimes the closer you get, the harder it is to tell the truth. Once my best friend asked me,"Do you think that the cute guy from Chemical Department has a crush on me? He comes to talk to me everyday." Although I knew that guy just liked making fun of my friend, I couldn't tell her the truth. Seeing how much she cared about him, the last thing I would do was to put her through the pain of having an completely honest friend.
Apart from protecting friends, another reason people have to lie is that all of us have something we don't want others to know. No matter how close two people get, they still keep the little secret space deep down inside. I have a friend who we share almost every moment in our life, yet she never told me anything about her ex-boyfriend. When I asked her about it, she said that she could barely remember the time she spent with him. I knew she was lying. That is the dark history she will never tell. Everybody has the dark history and we always lie when it is mentioned by others.
There should be no doubt that being honest most of the time is a good thing. However, when it comes to a situation where we have to protect our friends or ourselves, a little bit lying is needed.
