Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:
In some circumstances, patience is not a good thing and instead we should take action at once.
Patience is usually considered as a virtue, especially at present many people have to pay for their mistakes resulting from their eagerness to succeed as soon as possible. However, this doesn’t necessarily indicate that people should always wait for everything. In some circumstances, we should immediately take action, otherwise we may lose the best opportunity to do something.
In ordinary times, action in time is beneficial for us to precede others and acquire the best recourse. There is an old saying in my country that 100 percent opportunity means no opportunity. It means that people should not wait until everything seems ready. Because the opportunity is so cherish that it everyone wants it. If someone first grasps it, he/she can first occupy the blank markets without rivals, while the successors need to contest the markets and recourses with others. For example, when Bill Gates was aware of that the computer markets is seeking for operating system, he decidedly dropped out from Harvard, and started the engine of Microsoft. Many people did not understand why Gates gave up such a good opportunity to study in the world’s No.1 University. However, in a short time, microsoft dominates the PC market with its operating systems, such as MS-DOS and Windows. Now, Bills Gates’ company becomes the biggest software company in the world and thousands of people regard him as their model for he was the richest person in the world for 12 years at the recent several decades. If Bill Gates starts his business after he graduated from the university, other companies may have already developed the similar operating systems and dominated the markets, and Bill Gates may just be an engineer in a company.
In desperate times, action in time can minimize the loss of all kinds of incidents. We can often hear of this sentence: ”desperate times call for desperate measures”. It means that people should make judgements manly and take different action in some special circumstances, especially in dangerous circumstances, otherwise the loss may become bigger. For example, last year when Fukushima's first nuclear power plant accident happened in Japan, the government didn't report the accurate information about radiation in time for fearing that it might arouse panic, many residents around Fukushima miss the best time to leave and encountered the radiation damage. Many people strongly denounced the government that if it can reveal the information earlier, the loss should be less. So, taking action in time in some circumstances is desirable.
Admittedly, taking action at once is demanded, but it should be based on reasonable judgements. It’s not wise for someone to do something at wrong time because he/she is eager to succeed. For example, we sometimes hear of the academic misconducts in recent years, such as fraud storm of the cloning father of south Korean, hwang woo-suk. In order to show his success as soon as possible, he tailored the experience datum and fabricated the thesis declaring that he and his team had cloned the first dog in the world. But eventually the fraud was revealed and he was punished for his cheating.
All in all, whether we should be patient or take action at once depends on the circumstances.
