As politics, economics and culture are the most significant characteristics among all the characteristics, let’s see how major city can help us comprehend them.
  As far as I’m concerned, major city can play an important role in our understanding of a society’s political characteristic, especially the capital city of each country. We can take Beijing as an example to justify this assertion. Not only is Beijing one of the ancient capital of China, but also it is the capital of China since the foundation of PRC. The majestic Forbidden City vividly represents the feudal monarchy society of ancient China. In the mean time, when we come to study the modern political characteristic of China, the Great Hall of the People, the Hall of CPPCC and the office buildings of diverse political organs all reveal the regime of contemporary China. This kind of convergence can be seen all over the world. Hence, to fully understand the political characteristic of a society, we must study its major city.
  Besides, if we come to study the economical characteristic of a society, our study must start from its major cities, which act as the rudder to steer the trend of the development of a society’s economics. For instance, we cannot deny the fact that when we visit Beijing, we will catch the sight of a large amount of state-owned enterprises, which distribute in every major industry of China. As a matter of fact, these state-owned enterprises also occupy a large portion of the market of their industry, which indicate the fact that public ownership plays a principal part of Chinese economics. On the other hand, the high concentration of foreign business in Shanghai as well as the enormous sum of export in Shenzhen exemplifies the open policy of China, whose ultimate goal is to facilitate the progress of Chinese economics. With doubt, both Shanghai and Shenzhen are the major cities of China. Therefore, to thoroughly understand the economical characteristic of a society, we must study its major city.
  Furthermore, when it comes to the turn of the cultural characteristic of a society, major city can still gives us a hand. In Washington DC, the museums along the national lawns exhibit not only the national culture of America since the independence of the country, but also show us the minority culture of American Indian. In addition, via a large quantity of movies from Hollywood, Los Angeles, we can have a comprehensive impression of American culture as well. Thus, to completely understand the cultural characteristic of a society, we must study its major city.
