Recently there is a debate over whether formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits or them free.Some people claim that it restrains minds and spitits,while the other advocate no. Different people hold the diffrent opinions depending on their own backgrounds. As a matter of fact, it lacks a universal answer to this question. Acctully, it needs a case-by-case analysis. As far as I am concerned, however,I agree that the fromal education is helpful on opening minds and spirits.My view can be supported by the following reasons.

At first, formal education is helpful to estanbilsh our basic opinions towards the objectives. We know nothing when we were born because the lack of knowledge.The formal education provides the basic knowledge from sky to the earth,from nature to society,and we beninfit from it to gradully form our own opinions which is the subjective sense.Thus, it can be inffered that what an important role dose the formal education plays in the our daily life cognitive. If there is no sufficient knowledge suppored by formal education, imagination is just a day-dream.For example, a child has once seen a ripe apple fell down natully without anyone's help.He might be astonished by this sense but couldn't explain it.So he began to imagine.He thought hardly to find out the propable answer, thought, it made no sense.Can we say that he lacks imagination? So,we should recognize that aprting from the basic knowledge, lacking the fromal education,we can do nothing just to imagine.

At the second part I would like to say that imagination is extended by the formal education. Always with the developing of our knowledge,we may explore more questions which are never thought of before. Why can it be that? Because the formal education provies us a more insightful eyes and more acute mind. For instence,we may think why some stars are bigger and the others are smaller.When we find the distance is the key to this question, we may ask ourslves another question that why some stars are far from us but the others are not.Then we struggle to find its answer. Every imagination depends on its level of knowledge. Indeed,People develop their knowledge by imagination and learning as above.

In addition, the fromal education teaches us the self-learning ability.We are not only shapen our opinions by the formal education but also aquire the study ablity from it.Since then we can explore more questions and answer it by self-learning
without formal education any more.Thus the formal education has fininshed by itslef.

Admittedly,it may be true that formal education restrain our minds and spirits under some circumstance.If we only follow the strutions of formal education case by case without thingking,our imagination will be distort or even disppear.Also,the teacher, who is considered to be the most important role player in formal educating,should encourage all the students to think,imagine and solve the problem all by themselves.After all these have done,we will benifit from formal education more.

To sum up,due to the mentioned reasons,which sometimes correlate with each other to generate an integrate whole and thus become more convincing than any single one if them, we may be comfortable to say that fromal education won't restrain our minds and spirits under a correct conduction.
