Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment – doing things they like to do – rather than doing things they should do.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.


Nowadays, with improving of living standard and technology, our life is becoming more and more comfortable, and the number of formals of entertaining is increasing. And then the problem has been brought into focus that whether people today spend too much time on personal enjoyment. With every aspect taken into consideration, I believe people today still spend most of their time doing things what they should do.

Most people have to be responsible to their families and spend much of their time on their families. Considering our parents, in order to gain enough money for a better education of their children, they should work hard from Monday to Friday. Besides, they need to prepare dinner after a whole day’s hard working and finish house work before going to bed. Generally, parent is not going to leave their families behind and enjoy their own entertainments.

While for jobs, people today devote large amount of energy to their work but enjoyment. Most people are serious about their work and would not leave their jobs easily. For instance, it takes long time for citizens in Wuhan to go to work because the traffic is bad in such a big city. It is common to see that citizens hold a bowl and eat while walking in the early morning. Therefore, banks, supermarkets and any other places are always open on time because few citizens will be late for work. If they keep hanging out ignoring works they should do, our world would be a totally mess.

As an independent adult, we are also responsible for the society. Spending time on families and jobs may just be out of people’s own happiness, but large numbers of cases will inform you that many people devote themselves to the happiness of others.

In China, many people, especially the young generation, are doing what they can to assist the one who are suffering in a miserable life. In 2008, a terrible earthquake tore Wenchuan into pieces. People lived there were surrounded by tears and pain. But assistance from all over the country came right after that. A lot of volunteers, including Hanhan, a young writer, drove to Wenchuan with food and water in their cars. Although Wenchuan was full of dangerous at that moment, they still rushed there and spent lots of their time on reconstruction of Wenchuan. What they have done is really necessary when facing unpredictable disasters.

Admittedly, people today spend some time on personal entertainments. But most of our time is spent on things what we should do. Besides, it is reasonable for us to have a good relax in these entertaining activities, because it can help us prepare for the subsequent work.
