11. "No matter what the situation, it is more harmful to compromise one's beliefs than to adhere to them."
12:35
As the old saying goes, "life is precious, but love might earn more, as for the freedom, the former two would be less." As for the freedom, different people would hold the different opinion on it, according to their different values, complexed experiences. In the road to the freedom, we usually regard resistency of belief as the enormous important thing among various values. In my opinion, no matter what the situation, anyone who would like hold their faith would adhere to their belief.
In reality, people from different cultures and classes of the societies would hold different values. On the one hand, values or belief would differ according to different cultures among diverse countries. For instance, the beliefs of those in developing countries would be different apparently from those in advanced countries, who might have more understanding concerning the freedom and democracy, as well as other civilized items. Unlike those in the advanced countries, the people in the developing countries would easily concentrate on the condition fit for their survival. On the other hand, values or belief would differ enormously according to different groups in certain cultures. In this case, in the internal of any countries, there would still be many conflicts among different interest groups, in that large scale war and small scale reformation come into being.
However, adhering to one beliefs would promote the society more than compromising them. Examples from different ages or from different fields abound. Consider the famous astronomer several centries ago, Copernicus, who adheres to his belief on heliocentric theory fiercely for no fear of the menace from the Inquisition, who hold the geocentric theory. As we know today, the earth rotates around the sun and, in this point Copernicus is right instead of the Inquisition. If Copernicus had not adhered to his belief, the people would still remain under the control of the Inqusition, and that the achievement of the modern science and technology is best left unsaid. On the contrary, for example, in the wars of sorts, those who side with the positive interests fails to adhere to their belief and compromise to their enemy would influence the progress of the human freedom and be spurned by the masses.
Another important business which should be paid attention to is that, when someone possess one's beliefs, he or she should not be influenced by those who would hinder them to adhere to their beliefs due to various reasons, especially the vested interest of another classes in the societies. In the process of pursuing the truth in the field of science, examples that some scientists comprimise to their boss due to the fear of lossing their job abound, even in the most advanced country - America. One of my biochemistrical teacher tell the story which she has experienced in the course of learning in America would lend strong support to the above suggestion.
In conclusion, while still some people would remain unconvinced, the reason which I analyzed in the argument would at least make them aware of the complexities of the issue under discussion. Therefore, more and more people would realize that, though we might be hindered by so much obstacles, we must adhere to our beliefs until we succeed.
