Below is a message that was sent to CMA and CGA members, students and associates this afternoon:
Dear members,
We are pleased to advise you that today the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta issued notice to their members regarding their re-entry to the unification initiative in Alberta. As you know, CGA and CMA Alberta formally voted to unify on October 12, 2012 and considerable progress has been made on the operational merger of the two organizations under the CPA national unification plan. Prior to their departure from unification discussions earlier this year, the ICAA had been part of positive progress toward unification in Alberta. We are pleased to welcome them back to the process.
CGA and CMA Alberta will continue to move forward on the operational merger that began formally in October. All of the professional accounting associations have indicated their support for the rationale behind unification and we continue to hope all will eventually choose to participate. The return of the ICAA to the effort in Alberta completes the Chartered Accountant provincial presence in the national merger and now means more than 80% of Canada’s professional accountants are on board to unify under the CPA banner.
We will continue to keep you updated as further events occur.
