"People's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surroundings than by any internal characteristic."

Needless to say, everybody alive lives in the society as it exists where people always exert positive or negative impact on each other. As complex personality of human beings, however, it is hard to argue that people's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surroundings than any internal characteristic. At least, to a large extent, internal characteristic of people which determine the attitudes of human beings plays a quite important role as much as their immediate situation or surroundings, or more.

When people live in a society, they learn from each other in spite of themselves and interplay with immediate surroundings of their own, and that seems to be pair of force and counterforce. I, city born and city bred, always have a different idea that how important the personal computer is with my cousin who lives in a small village where there is hardly anything advanced or high-tech all the time. There is a difference between us that in my view I can do something so interesting, such as studying, chatting with friends, surfing in the Internet and so forth, using computers as a rewarding tool. Instead my cousin does not think so - even he can not accept the idea that computers can facilitate his homework. Apparently, it is brought up a great many of differences by various living conditions which people exist in. In some sense the direct surroundings people live in have substantial effect on people's attitudes, as they were.

However, the idea that the effect caused by people's immediate situation or surroundings plays a crucial role in determining people's attitudes, ignores one determinant that is the internal characteristic of people. None of us can tell that any child who lives in a family with criminal record must be growing to be a criminal. It is the fact that many children whose parents, or sisters and brothers have ever broken the law, may be exerted bad influence on more or less. It is true that the immediate situations have correlation with the people's attitudes, but all shades of ideas can exist in the same society, the same times because of the internal characteristics of people. Therefore, we are able to differentiate persons by the character of being kind, wicked, mediocre, original and creative, and so on.  Remember that there is a sentence of actor's lines in a famous movie: 'Stupid is as stupid does'. For people, to a great extent, the inner characteristics of their own determine their ideas and ways which they deal with things in.

To sum up, people, since being born, are affected by their immediate situation or surroundings, such as living conditions, growing journey, and communicating persons. Having the ability of self-learn, self-control, people are accustomed to assimilating their direct or indirect situations or surrounding to help build up their internal characteristic, and then determine their attitudes to anything that they experience.
