Dong set for Man Utd


Final negotiations are taking place
Manchester United are set to complete the signing of 18-year-old Chinese striker Dong Fangzhuo.
United are expected to pay Dalian Shide up to £3.5m for Dong.

"Dong's contract will be signed in one or two days," said Dalian's general manager Lin Lefeng.

The transfer would boost United's profile in Asia following the opening of their first theme restaurant and bar in the western Chinese city of Chengdu.


Under the terms of the deal, United are reported to be sending two or three coaches to work with Dalian Shide's development squad.

Dong, who was also linked with Real Madrid and Inter Milan, emerged as the cream of a crop of youngsters sent by China's top clubs to England for trials in August.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted last November that the club was in the market for a player from China, although he did not confirm their identity.

Surely he will need a work permit ? He hasnt played enough (or any) internationals and I doubt if he has an EU passport.    [Complain about this post]

Good point - I might be wrong but because he is only 18 I'm not sure if the work permit restrictions apply???

Nah, thats why Dhalin didn't want to sell him to you in the first place.
They wanted to loan him to you so that you couldn't loan him out yourselves.
