题目
The map below is of the town of Garlsdon. A new supermarket (S) is planned for the town. The map shows two possible sites for supermarket.


开头段
The map shows two proposed locations for a new supermarket for the town of Garlsdon.
很简单，和题目类似，点明了这张图的主题，two proposed locations for a new supermarket

主体一段
The first potential location (S1) is outside the town itself, and is sited just off the main road to the town of Hindon, lying 12 kms to the north-west.
说明了S1的具体位置，指明了两点 位置outside the town, 交通off the main road to the town of Hindon
（Hindon is）lying 12 kms to the north-west (of S1)，方位关系是地图的一个难点，
让我们先看看新概念三第一课中的一句话 A wild puma had been spotted forty-five mile south of London 在伦敦以南45英里处发现了一只美洲狮，
我再举一个牛津高阶的例子
a town to the east of Chicago 芝加哥以东的一个城镇

This site is in the countryside and so would be able to accommodate a lot of car parking.
议论位置in the countryside (outside the town itself)的好处

This would make it accessible to shoppers from both Hindon and Garlsdon who could travel by car.
议论交通just off the main road的好处

As it is also close to the railway line linking the two towns to Gransdon (25 km to the south-west),  a potentially large number of shoppers would also be able to travel by train.
谈到了第二个交通the railway line，并且说明其好处
(Gransdon is) 25 km to the south-west (of S2) 把这些表是方位关系的表达填写完整，就很明白了

主体二段
In contrast, the suggested location, S2, is right in the town centre, which would be good for local residents.

Theoretically the store could be accessed by road or rail from the surrounding towns, including Brandson, but as the central area is a no-traffic zone, cars would be unable to park and access would be difficult.

结尾段
Overall, neither site is appropriate for all the towns, but for customers in Cransdon, Hindon and Garlsdon, the out-of-town site (S1) would probably offer more advantages.

表达两者位置之间的相对关系是描述地图的难点，下面我一一说明
方位的介词in, to, on的使用
A is in the east of B 指A位于B的范围之内，及A位于B的东部地区
Shanghai is in the east of China. 上海在中国东部。
A is to the east of B 指A在B以东，即A位于B以东
Japan is to the east of China. 日本在中国以东。
A is on the east of B 指A在B以东，并且接壤，当然，接壤也可以用to表示
US is on the south of Canada. 美国在加拿大以南。

方位词的词性
[adj] North America
[n] The town is to the south of London.
[adj] The room faces south, so we get a lot of sun.
     Edinburge is (a long way) north of London.
     a town east of Tianjin

掌握了以上的这些句子，方位表达基本没问题了。再罗嗦一句，在口语考试中表示方位也很重要，比如说PART 1谈你的家乡，PART 2谈谈你去过的地方或者是介绍一个建筑物的结构等等，所以需要注意。
