Issue55.Competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education.
第2版,写了42分钟。
Competition for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education.
The purpose of education, though different people hold different ideas, is generally considered to empower the student with the actual ability. The grades that a student get out of the learning process, however, is just a result of his or her efforts given when he or she was trying to master the ability. It is more a by-product than the purpose of education. As a result, if the students focus on the grades but not the actual ability when learning, the quality of learning will be seriously limited.
According to the personal experience of Zhudi, the Nobel Prize winner of physics, the most important thing in the learning process is to cultivate the research ability, not the grades .He once said (and I paraphrase):"When I was a student at college was not the best if you judge me by my grade, but I won the Nobel Prize.” This illustrates that both the educators and the students should not be mislead by the grades but cooperate to pursue the knowledge itself. In other words, competition for high grades will take up most of the teachers and the learner's energy, which should be attributed to the work for actual ability. In this way, the quality of education can be greatly weakened.
In addition, the negative effect of pursuing high grades instead of real ability varies from different level of education. In primary school, where young kids receive their initial education, competition for high grades such as high marks and scores will do serious harm to their mental health. If a kid was told he or she was not a good student just because of his or her score is below average, he or she might raise apathy to learning and give up trying to change his or her situation.
In high schools and universities where the competition for high grades is keener than primary school, the failure to get high grades may cause serious consequence if the importance is overemphasized. As is known to all, among the best universities in China, especially in the National Key Universities, the student suicide rate is quite high due to the keen competition for such "high grades" which is the standard of evaluating the qualification of access to the scholarships and other academic merits. Can we call it "education "if it leads to a person's death?” “poison" may be a better name for this. At no time shall we forget the aim of education is to turn ignorance to erudite and empower the students with knowledge, not the ranks or scores.
Last but not least, competition for high grades sometimes can destroy a student's personality, which is considered to be the essence of a qualified person. Nowadays "cheating" is not a new topic in schools as it happens so frequent that the students have even got used to it. Some of my classmate even claim that it is not for real cheating if you are not caught doing it because the had no choice if they want to get satisfactory scores. As their personality began to corrupt by the push of competition for high grades, the education became useless for them.
To conclude, competition for high grades is not the right and effective way to achieve a successful education, on the contrary, it seriously limits the quality of education; sometimes even put the effort of both the educators and students in vain.

*All levels of education : primary school high school uinv.
*Draft:
[0]:general:I am for the topic.
[1]the purpose of education is to empower people with knowledge.not merely ensure students with high scores or ranks. The quality of learing does not ly in the grades one has got but the ability to put the knowledge he has learned into practise.Eg.zhudi....Nobel prize winner of physics once said (and I paraphrase)...
[2]Competition limits the quality of learning at all levels of education from these following aspects. At first, when a little boy or girl entered primary school to get initial education ......
And then, when he or she gets older to goto high school.....
... to the Univ........eg.
[3]As could be drawn from above.....END.

The essay:
The speaker suggests that the competition for high grades will do harm to the quality of education. In my point of view, I agree with the speaker and there are many instance supporting my view.In the following discussion,I would like to present evidence to lend support to my standpiont.
To begin with, according to my opinion, all the students should make it clear that the purpose of education is not to pursue high grades but to empower themselves with knowldge.Getting high scores and satisfactory ranks do ensure one with a distinguished grade, but they do not garantee that he has mastered the knowledge. However, the quality of education, which can be examined by the quality of learning of the students,is totally depentdent the learner's actual ability  to put the knowledge into practice. To make this point more clear, let's see an example:Zhudi, the Nobel Prize winner of physics, had his personal expierence about the relationdship between grades and actual ability. As a student,
his marks are not at all pleasant to be accepted by himself and people who cared about his studies, however,it is only himself that know he had really mastered the knowledge in spite of the grade he got out of every courses. When he was given the honour,he recalled the years as a student, and he said(and I paraphrase) "I always think that the scores or grades one got can not reflect his reaserch ability, which requires him to put the knowldge in the books into practise,I myself is a good example.I did not get the best grade, but I was given the Nobel Prize."Therefore,we can see the competition for high grades is not consonant with the purpose of education,on the contrary,it limits the quality of education to empower the students with practical abilities.
In addition,I will illustrate how does this compition for grades impairs the quality of learning at all levels. Each level of education is for students of different age considering to their ability to assimilates the things the teachers have shown in classes. However, the keen competition for high grades is the same from primary school to highschools and University. To make this argument more concret,I will anylise the situations one by one.
Firstly, when a little boy or girl entered primary school to get his or her initial education, the teachers, however, began to repeat one thing ,which was to get higher grades than others. From then on,the kid were told that was the best and might be the only way to prove he was a good student.Admittedly in some parts of the world, pursuing higher grades are not emphersized in such ways,it was just the situation there are not that serious than in other places.
And then, when these kids grew up to reiceive high school and University educations, the competition for higher grades seemed to be more important.Usually their performance at school are evaluated by their grades, thus the grades they get are set to be the standard to give them their benefits and punishments.
