For most students, studying in a famous educational institution is necessary for them to lead a ideal life. Of course the educational institution plays an important role for the students to prepare for their future, but responsibility of that institution is only limited to the students' academic performance. As for the perspective of students future success in their major, there is no need for the school to involve. If any necessary moderate advise is enough instead of dissuade.
First of all, the major purpose of education is to pass on knowledge and cultivate the youth for the society. Any goal unrelated to this final purpose of a educational institution is improper and unnecessary. The students go to school to obtain knowledge, what they expect the school to offer is the information that can help them improve their head. So any school that can provide the best teaching facilities is regarded as good school. Nobody will blame the school if it doesn't point out that the student can't success in that major. Obviously, this responsibility has nothing to do with the educational institution's instinct function.
Further more, naturally the school can care for the students about whether they can achieve success, it doesn't mean that the student should study for their success. For instance, many students study art just because they want to enjoy and appreciate artworks. And it is absurd that a school should dissuade all the students that are not talented enough to be an artist. So that dissuading a student from his/her fields of study should never be the school's responsibility, though it can server as a measure to improve the records about the graduated students of the school.
However, the school should give advise to the students who are serious about their study and pursuit for remarkable achievement in their filed. For these students, the school is able to give the most objective appraise about their future career perspective. In this case, the school's advise is valuable but it is still not its responsibility.
All in all, the educational institutions should focus on their academic teaching, as for their students future success, they should not take these issues too seriously and regard it as part of their responsibility, although for some students their advise are directive.
