"In any realm of life—whether academic, social, business, or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. Pragmatic behavior guarantees survival, whereas idealistic views tend to be superceded by simpler, more immediate options."
The speaker suggests that in any realm of life—whether academic, social, business,or political—the only way to succeed is to take a practical, rather than an idealistic, point of view. However, in terms of my personal experience and observation of life, I believe that both pragmatic behavior and idealistic view are necessary to success. In the following analysis, I would like to provide evidences to support my opinion.
In the first place, the main reason for my standpoint is that pragmatic behavior determines whether one will acquire scucess. To see this point clearly, there is a good example: there are two farmers who all would like to increase the yield of their farm produce. One of them absorbs the experience of last year by farming by himself and thus establish a plan about how to farm next year while the other farmer just stay in the house and hope to attain a good harvest day and day without making any innovations. Who will attain the goal next year? It is obvious that the former farmer will gain a good harvest of crops and the dream of the latter farmer will not be accomplished. Therefore, practical behavior is the highway to the success.
In addition, there is also another reason supporting my opinion. It is not difficult to find that idealistic view sometimes is very important to the success. In order to illustrate this reason, I would in here cite an example, which is very persuasive: a college student usually seek help from his master when he meet with difficulties. Maybe the master can not do something for the student personally, however, he can give some useful suggestions to the student and instruct the student morally. From this example, we can see the idealistic view is indispensable to everyone who would like to succeed. Because it give us the hope when we encounter difficulties and make us enthusiastic with our work until we attain our goal.
Moreover, to grasp the essence of my point of view, it is necessary to notice that only if one synthetize the practical behavior and the idealistic view would he make achievements constantly. It can be given an example: some great scientists always firstly think completely about his ideas and then seek the answers in the experimentation. This is just like the idealistic views and the practical behavior. Admittedly, sometimes only practical behavior also leads to success. For instance, some important scientific discoveries were made accidently. However, this alone does not constitute a sufficient support to claim that idealistic view is useless. As a result, both pragmatic behavior and idealistic point of view are important to success.
In conclusion, due to analysis and reasons mentioned above, which sometimes correlate with each other to form an organic whole and thus become more convincing than any one of them, we may safely draw the conclusion that pragmatic behavior guarantees survival and idealistic views are also indispensable to the success. |
