52"Education encourages students to question and criticize, and therefore does little to promote social harmony."
Does education do little to promote social harmony, since it encourages students to question and criticize? Some people maintain that the answer is no, and they may think that question and criticize often lead to conflicts. While it is true that question and criticize sometimes lead to conflicts, it also often contributes to the harmony among people, because question and criticize help to mutual understanding.
Firstly, only those people who dare to question can obtain truly understanding with others. There are all kinds of persons living in a society. A person often meets someone who has different opinions, customs and so on. For example, a student who likes silence probably lives with a neighbor who likes talking and enjoying loud music. If the student to be taught only to comply with others, he may comply at surface of his heart, but indeed, he may feel very boring when his neighbor plays music loudly. Nevertheless, if the student is taught to question and criticize, he will try to talk with his neighbor and exchange ideas each other. After that, his neighbor may understand the student and use earphones to listen music. Thus, they live together harmoniously.
Secondly, to teach students to question is good to their development in both personality and study. Through questions, students can understand more things and think more deeply. Sometimes, they even find something of great value. For example, one time, a teacher let his students to calculate from 1 to 100. After his order, all the students began to calculate at once except one student. He, unlike others, just sit there thinking. The teacher was curious and then asked him why he did not calculate. The students replied that he was thinking a good method to calculate. Then teacher said there was no other good method for calculating except plus the numbers one by one. However, the students doubted it and continued thinking. After a while, he got the result of the question that the answer was 5050. At the same time, other students were still busy in calculating. The teacher then ask the student how he got the result, the students said that he first plus 1 with 100, the result was 101, then plus 2 with 99, the result was still 101. According to this method, the answer was 50 times 101, that was 5050. The students finally became a famous scientist. This story tells us that only through questions, can the truth be obtained. If the students just complied with teacher, he would never find such wise method to calculate.
All in all, to question is so important of a student that it helps student to develop his own thoughts, and at the same time, it will do good to harmony.
