126.Society's external rewards are no measure of true success. True success can be measured only in relation to the goals one sets for oneself.
8:50
Nowadays, there is a growing discussion about success because many people want to achieve. Then what is the criterion of the success? The speaker asserts that the external rewards are no measure of true success, and the success only can be measured by the goals one sets for oneself. In fact, success is a relative concept and there is no absolute success. Therefore, there are no criteria to measure the true success.

The first and foremost, success is a relative concept so that people said someone succeeded at his or her field, which is comparing him or her with the other persons who are the same field as his or her. It is well-known that the people who gained the Noble Prize could be considered as successful people because they made the most important contributions to human beings; when it comes to their research fields, most people would believe they are truly successful; moreover, the Noble Prize as a society's external reward shows recognition (establishment) to their success; so at this time, such external reward is a measure of true success.

However, even if these who won the Noble Prize could consider that they are not very successful because there is still a distance to their goals, so the success seems that it isn't true success. As a case in point is that athletes who could win the laurels of the Olympic Games still felt regretful for the competition since they did not reach the goals that they set for themselves before the games. Can you say that they are not success or success? Maybe for average people could think they succeeded; but they themselves could still be not satisfied with their own shows. So it is true that success is no absolute standards.

Further, people who work in ordinary positions still make great contributions to the society, don't they succeed. For example, a doctor who always worked in a hospital and few persons knew him or her, devoted his or her precious life to the nation during the process of proposing SARS. Who can say he or she is not successful? Actually, in many people's view, he or she succeeded though he or she never gained any rewards or even not attained his or her goal. Hence, it is no denying that success is an absolute conception.

Maybe people always talk about what is the true success; in my opinion, success is no absolute criteria, and different people could have different views about it. In the mean time, the external rewards of society could be a signal of relative success.

Nowadays, there is a growing discussion about success because many people want to achieve.
The speaker asserts that the external rewards are no measure of true success,no ?
which is comparing him or her with the other persons who are the same field as( his or her) 有些重复,最好去掉
when it comes to their research fields, most people would believe they are truly successful

Nowadays, there is a growing discussion about success because many people want to achieve.
The speaker asserts that the external rewards are no measure of true success,no ?
which is comparing him or her with the other persons who are the same field as( his or her)
when it comes to their research fields, most people would believe they are truly successful

Nowadays, there is a growing discussion about success because many people want to achieve.(achieve it? 是不是少宾语) Then what is the criterion of the success?

As a case in point is that athletes who could win the laurels of the Olympic Games still felt regretful for the competition since they did not reach the goals that they set for themselves before the games.(在具体点,比如100米跑,人们想跑进9.74s,夺冠不是目的,重要的是puo记录) Can you say that they are not success or success? Maybe for average people could think they succeeded(这句是不是有点问题); but they themselves could still be not satisfied with their own shows. So it is true that success is no absolute standards.

Further, people who work in ordinary positions still make great contributions to the society, don't they succeed. For example, a doctor who always worked in a hospital and few persons(是不是people, not persons) knew him or her, devoted his or her precious life to the nation during the process of proposing SARS. Who can say he or she is not successful? Actually, in many people's view, he or she succeeded though he or she never gained any rewards or even not attained his or her goal. Hence, it is no denying that success is an absolute conception.

Maybe people always talk about what is the true success; in my opinion, success is no absolute criteria,(success is no criteria 成功不是标准??, 应该是有没有标准no concrete criteria to judge whether he or she is a success) and different people could have different views about it. In the mean time, the external rewards of society could be a signal of relative success.
