请教大家一道陈向东GRE高分突破上关于a distance和the distance的问题

这道题怎么做都还是觉得分不清楚a distance from和the distance from，请教一下大家是怎么理解这两个短语的区别的

(1) 7 is a distance of 4 from n.
(2) 7 is the distance of 4 from n.

以语法角度来讲，句子(1)(2)中7都是主语，is都是谓语，而句(1)中4 from n是状语，用来描述7的特征，a distance of是4的定语，用来修饰4。而句(2)中的the distance是宾语，4 from n是修饰宾语the distance的定语。换言之，简化句子：
(1) 7 is 4 from n.
(2) 7 is the distance.

哈哈，讲得越来越复杂了，我神经了，还是无视我的解释吧，数学里基本没有那么扣字眼的，反正我之前是木有见过的。。。
