A leader, to some extent, might be the highest position within a team who will take a role to induce his/her team members or arrange the crucial affairs in the realm. That is to say, the importance of a leader seems to be obvious and apparent. Therefore, the problem how to be a successful leader has been aroused for many people to consider. As the author asserts that in order to be an effective leader, the public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. While, in my opinion, the quality such as ethics and morality might be the prerequisite point to consider a leader, but not a definitely standard to decide the efficiency and success of a leader.
On the one hand, a person with a higher standard of ethics and morality might easily to be looked as a kind leader. Compare with an ugly guy, a leader with an upright quality might easily be acceptable by the employees, because most people would be attracted by someone with the similar quality. A good ethics and morality will be admirable to the common people. Herewith a higher ethical and moral quality is also a personal charisma for a leader, which would help the leader to gather his/ her member steadily. For example, the problem how to avoid a great deal of resigned rate is a serious issue for some enterprises. Some leaders thought it was really difficult to retain the employees, even a higher salary cannot redeem those left employees. While scientists now find that having a good leader might more or less assuage the problem. Because a leader with higher ethical and moral standard will create a fair and harmonious ambience for his/ her employees to work in and will also help the employees form a loyalty for the company.
On the other hand, a high ethical and moral standard may not be an indispensable quality for an effective leader. As we known, a lot of great people who did not equipped such a higher quality, but still be an effective leader and engrave in the history. For instance, Hitler, who made the Second World War, used to be looked as a hero to unify the world. Although his action is inhumane, we cannot neglect the fact that he used to be a successful leader in Nazi and control the great army at that time. Therefore, even though a person does not equip a higher quality, it will not invade him/ her to be effective leader.
There are many ways for a person to be an effective leader. Equipment of a higher quality is just one of these successful standards. We cannot polarize the situation to conclude whether the quality is equipped by a person is play a role to decide whom would be an effective leader.
