158. The arts(music, dance, visual arts, etc.) are vitally important to students' education and should therefore receive as much emphasis as mathematics, science, reading and other mainstream subjects.
9:17
In contemporary society, there is a increasing advocating of changing the educational system in that it has impeded the development of students. It is true that current education exists some serious flaws, moreover, to some extent, it cannot meet the needs of student. In the past, many educators ignored the education of arts, while nowadays some individuals maintain that the arts should receive the equal importance as the mainstream subjects. Is it right? Actually, it is still problematic if the arts are considered the same significance as the mainstream subjects like mathematics, science, reading etc.
First of all, it is very vital for people to know what is a student well developed because only in the way can we know how to culture students. Generally speaking, people consider a student who is nourished both the knowledge and the moral training as a well-being student; he or she should master both the knowledge of science and the fundamental ken of the arts, and at least he or she know how to appreciate a piece of art work. Thus, as the center of students' education, schools should provide both science and arts courses for all students.
Since the arts are a critical part of students' study, what do students benefit from them? It is self-evident that the arts can inspire students and develop their original minds, which is the most factor of innovation. Take the music as an example; when students listen to the music, they can imagine another scene, assume other relevant things, and attain another thoughts; in the mean while, students could develop their imaginative capability. In addition, the arts can contribute the entertainment to students, which is the best way of the relaxation for the students. As a case in point is the drawing, which could bring a peaceful mind to people, make people relax enough, and improve the taste of people. Hence, the arts education will benefit everyone; so schools should offer such courses.
On the other hand, the arts education can in no way affect the education of the mainstream subjects, although they are vital for students' well-being. It is no denying that the mainstream subjects like science is a drive of society's progress. Nowadays, there are so many high technology products such as automobile, computer, cell phone etc. All of these products greatly benefit human beings; had not scientific education, people would never make such great progress and never enjoy such comfortable lives. Assumed that the arts occupied more time than the mainstream subjects, students would not concentrate on their own major study; if no material guarantee, people hardly study the arts. Therefore, the arts cannot instead/replace the mainstream subjects.
Overall, the arts could be the hobbies of students, which is not only beneficial the development of students, but also can guarantee the study of major. In order to develop the students well, it is necessary for educators to seek a balance between the study of the arts and the mainstream subjects.
