"Many people believe that a few individuals or small groups (family, friends, teachers, celebrities, for example) have caused them to think and behave in the way they do. Yet it is always society as a whole that defines us and our attitudes, not a few individuals."
拍砖把!我做好准备再改了!谢谢!
I fundamentally agree with the speaker’s claim that it is always society as a whole that defines us and our attitude, not a few individuals. If someone argues that what people think and behave has nothing to with the whole society, but is only related with a few individuals or small groups, he or she may ignore the far-reaching influence of society upon everyone.
On the one hand, through all kinds of curriculum set elaborately in schools, we can learn broad ken of different fields, such as history, geography, mathematics and physics. Abundant knowledge can fulfill our heart, open our mind and develop well characteristics. Take history for example, learning history makes us know the evolution of mankind's civilization, which has illuminative meanings for up-to-date practice of society. We follow good examples and abandon dregs in the long river of history. Moreover, as the old proverb goes, more reading makes man wiser. No sooner are you born than your parents would teach you what to learn and how to learn, later do your teachers. Once we have the ability to read and think logically, we can absorb those great ideas of predecessors by reading and gradually form our own perspective on domestic and foreign issues.
On the other hand, people of modern society are exposed to a large amount of information, which unavoidably has substantial effect on people’s minds and value judgments. Television, as the most popular way of entertainment, brings people both fun and education. Especially as far as advertisements on television concerned, they indeed infuse the audience with new concepts and values of consumption, which conducts us to consume and makes us feel better in virtue of the power of brands. Furthermore, nowadays with the booming of internet, not only can people access the large pool of knowledge conveniently, but can freely express their ideas on various BBS, which seems virtual, factually helps people form their own angel of view and perspectives to a great extent. There is obvious evidence that more people, especially the young, are inclined to regard being on-line as an indispensable part of their lives.
While I concede that minds and behavior of a small group of people, who live around you, in deed have direct influence upon you. As we usually live in a certain circle of people, such as our family, friends and teachers, we used to what they say and their demeanor, then potentially accept those ideas, finally, we will treat them as examples. What’s more, to make decisions, especially when we confront important affairs, we are inclined to refer to those people you trust most. Undoubtedly, his or her idea affects your choice to some extent.
To sum up, everyone, as a part of the society, actually plays different role in the whole society and influences each other, not only those persons live with him or her. Also from the above analysis, we can easily draw the conclusion that the basic views and values of someone have much more relation with the whole society than with a few individuals or small groups and we should be cautious to make right choice of examples for ourselves. |
