科研is bullsht totally, although I am having to do 科研 right now, in engineering. In fact, Im now recruiting my own new grads (master's), and before I give them admission, i will tell 'em da truth on job perspective. if they r really into research, it is not my bad.

Keep it cool man:P I think the bullshit thing is a little bit personal. I totally respect ur opinion in this issue, but isn't it a bit discouraging to those ppl who are really into research? :)
I think our students are so motivated to do research is just because we are from a third world country. it sounds hurt, but it's what exactly the brutal world tells us (HK research grads are dominated by mainlanders, while in us, most of them are from china and India). Even though, I still think its better for you to present ur opinion in a more balanced way. The reason is simple, there is still a bulk of us who can not afford the money and time to switch to a masters program with better market prospect, and I always believe some of us are born to be academic ppl ~~
I think u may want to talk about why u picked up keng die resesrch at the first place. If it's about Canadian status, then doing research is not a bad choice for those going for the the same thing.
those you mentioned are for Bai Ren, not for chinese. the easist way to compare two countries is, to look around Mitbbs and Yorkbbs. On mitbbs, people are talking about Phd, faculty, CS job with 100-150K salary, oil company. Whereas in canada's yorkbbs, everyone only cares how to immigrate by studying cooking, or college course.
