Learning one's own culture maybe is the most meaningful thing for each individual to do. The author suggests that we should have the personal knowledge of at least one other culture which ensures truly understanding the meaning and the essence of our own culture. As far as I am concerned, I totally agree with the author's conclusion and my standpoint will proved in the following discussion.
To begin with, if we want to learn one thing completely,(comprehensively) we have to, as the author suggests, learn the distinctly(distinct) opposite ones. When we retrospect our childhood, how did we know the color black? How did our parents teach us what is the good thing (good things we should do)we should do? It is obvious that we learn the black by the comparison(comparing) from the color of white(white color), and we learned the(去掉the) good things include(including) honest or brave after our parents showed something bad done by other children such as cheating or talking nervously with strangers. From what I mentioned above, I can assert that, the best or maybe the only way for us to learn knowledge or acquire experience is to get know the opposite one which is distinctly different from what we want to know.(日常生活的例子)
So, when we are confronting of the culture, only by learning the characteristic of others, we can acquire the essence and the pith of our own. Everyone may have the same experience that we feel even more confused to acquire our own culture after observing our friends because we find out nearly everything of us seems the same such as the way of speaking and thinking(and) the view towards the social or political affairs. However, after we have learned others' culture we will find out that Chinese are more modest, American are more humerous(humorous), Japanese are more serious, and French are more romantic. Only after the comparison, we can defined us and became truly understand our own.(最后立足于truly understand没有啊?)
Moreover, Globalization, which is the irresistible trend, make(s) the culture more (and more) alike from each other; unless we put more concentration on comparison, we will lost our own. Children in China now recognize the Mcdonald's and KFC as their own traditional food, Chinese no longer likes to go to see the Beijing opera but they are quite interested in see action movie produced by Hollywood. As a result, if Chinese don't understand which(改such) culture comes from American and learn the difference from Chinese culture, they will be totally assimilate and lose their own culture, not to speak of learning them.
(指出了文化侵略的问题,但这样的化就不应该学习外来文化哦,所以我觉得这个例子不好。)
In sum, learning a different one is the way of learning : only by learning other culture we will see the distinct characteristic of our own, only by learning other culture, we can discriminate the difference and prevent from losing our own. So, I agree with the author that learning other knowledge is a indispensible factor contributes to one to learn his own culture.
(作者立足于comparison between our own culture and the other cultures, 这个基本是正确的,但我觉得笔墨可以花在 truly understand our own culture 上,比如文化渊源问题。 How our culture comes to be the way it is?
