Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
只有针对每个学生的需要和兴趣,教育才真正的有意义
A crucial topic of education, popularly persistent from ancient time till nowadays, is what education should do in order to assure the effectivity. As far as I am concerned, education should organically match the demand of the society with needs and interests of individuals.
It is social demands that education should consider. A purpose of education is that students trained by educational systems could have capabilities to fit for different jobs in the society. Therefore, it is important for educational systems to carefully consider what the society demand. Then, if educational systems establish curricula plans after these elaborate analysis and prediction, they would cater for social demands more effectively and avoid the waste of persons with ability more successfully than without. There is a lesson in China recently that many graduates have difficulties to find jobs matching with their majors in that the demand of these majors are nearly saturated. The reason for this phenomenon is that colleges did not consider the real social demands, and enrolled students who have interest in these majors blindly. The approach to solve this problem is that these students have to get rid of their own major and return to other majors imperative in the society, which produce a phenomenon of waste. If colleges had investigated the developing trend of these hot majors and enrolled students reasonably, other than unilaterally considering individual interests, the waste of education would have been avoided to some extent. As a consequence, educational systems should take social demands into account.
It is also important for educational systems to meet the individual needs and interests. Individual needs and interests are crucial impetuses to study. As we know, when students study what they interest, they could learn better than the major they do not like, as a maxim in China says that interest is the best teacher. Students' potential abilities, such as creative abilities and some cognitive skills, could be discovered during study what they need and interest. Because they are curious, they are willing to spend more time to research in these fields. Various inventions are good examples to support this view. If these inventors had no interest, they would not spend time on studying, then they would not make any invention. Therefore, individual needs and interests are too important to be ignored by educational systems.
Since these two factors are so significant that both of them could not be neglected, educational systems should effectively lead students to cater for social demands on the basis of their own interests. Students, most of teenagers, always could not realize what they real need and interest, since they are too young. With the increasing of ages, they may find their interests change. Hence, educators is so crucial that it should lead students gradually to discover their interests and social demands, then help them to design reasonable plans for their career. For example, some universities in China began to adopt a new project that students choose their majors after two years study in the university, other than at the beginning. The advantage of this project is that the university could design reasonable curricula based on social demands and students could truly find their interests after two years study. As a result, graduates in these universities are popular in the society, since the training in the university combines their interests with social demands together.
To sum up, education will be truly effective when it organically combine social demands with individual needs and interests together, and actively lead students to cater for social demands based on their interests. (592 words)
