买了不用这个点我好像也有提到

两年后过来补充一下，我自己的认识就是，侧重于，这些人购买这些shoes什么的，不是为了去健身，有可能单纯就是因为好看。比如现在社会上就有很多运动鞋的潮流什么的。当然老师的不是本地人购买我觉得也算作一个好思路。

我的思路是：反对题目观点。把 contemporary culture 分成popular culture 和 high culture. 其中the trends of    the youth 可以反映pop culture, 但不能代表后者。 望老师和各位多多指教，谢谢！
I disagree with the statement that analyzing the trends of the youth is the best effective means to understand contemporary culture. It may be true that investigating the youth trends is an effective way to understand popular culture in the contemporary society. But the trends of the youth are not the reliable indications of high culture, which is also a necessary part of contemporary culture.

In modern society, popular culture that reflected by its youth is characterized by entertainment and consumerism. Analyzing the consumption pattern of the youth can help us gain the understanding of the consumer culture of the contemporary society. For example, in term of eating habits, nowadays, with the fast-paced life, KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks are very popular among young people, gradually changing their eating habits. And in terms of clothing, young people prefer to follow fashion trends, new styles of clothing always attract a great many of young followers. Also young people are the major consumer group of the hi-tech products, such as ipad, iphone, the state-of-the-art computer and so on. So, through the consumer goods purchased by young people, we can obtain a general understanding of the current consumer culture.

In addition, investigating the pattern of leisure activities of young people can help us better understand the entertainment culture of the modern society. For instance, watching TV is a popular leisure activity that has attracted a large number of the youth. Also, with the Internet becoming an important source of entertainment, a number of online social media such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter have a great many of young visitors. Besides, the youth are the main viewers of the latest films and movies, and also many of them are the fans of popular music. Therefore, through analyzing the leisure activities of the youth, one can effectively get an understanding the present entertainment culture.

However, to obtain a general understanding of contemporary culture, merely analyzing the trends of the youth is not sufficient as the cultural trends of young people cannot fully represent high culture. High culture, in modern society, such as opera , ballet, and drama, seems cannot attract as many young people as popular culture. But it is esteemed as art, presenting the cultural products of aesthetic value, while pop culture is always viewed as a commercial culture, superficial and sensationalist. In addition, unlike the pop culture that is constantly changing and heavily influenced by mass media and the culture industry, high culture tends to have long history and survive the test of the time. Thus, high culture forms an important force shaping the contemporary culture from a historic perspective. Therefore, without analyzing high culture, one cannot fully understand the contemporary culture.

In conclusion, I think that the trends of the youth can effectively reflect the popular culture of the contemporary society. But to better understand contemporary culture, we also need to analyze its high culture that may not be represented by the youth tendency.
