4) Scandals are useful because they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

I agree that scandals are useful because of its great power to attract people's attention. For scandals concerning social problems, they promote the reform of the society and enhance public's welfare. For
scandals involving public individuals, such as stars and celebrity in academic fileds, they help to remind people to behave themselves and obey the laws. Some people may argue that revealing scandals of individuals may violate their privacy. I don't agree with this point of view in that under this circumstance, rendering public know the fact is neccesary for it's a part of the punishment of these immoral behaviors of public people.

Sometimes policies' makers don't give enough attention to some problems until the scandals about them
were revealed.举一个在中国关于流浪者法律建立的例子：十一年前，对流浪汉的救助管理机构在中国由民政部门和公安机关共同管理，这种设置是存在问题的。2003年,在打工的大学生孙志刚因缺暂住证,被公安机关遣送到中转站收容，在此过程中被救治站员工殴打身亡。有关孙志刚之死的丑闻，引发了社会对收容制度的广泛讨论，也引起了政策制定者的重视。2003年6月，国务院公布《城市生活无着的流浪乞讨人员救助管理办法》，同时，过去的相关法律被废止。至此,以“自愿求助,无偿救助”为原则的救助管理制度取代了强制性的收容遣送制度。类似这样的丑闻因得到了社会大众的广泛关注，引发了社会改革。

For scandal's about public people like movie stars and celebrity, they help to alert both of themselves and other public people to obey laws and set just examples for general public. 例如中国香港明星柯震东吸毒丑闻，曝光后引起广泛关注。柯震东做了深刻检讨，忏悔没有树立良好公众形象，发誓改过自新。这对其他演艺界的明星也是一种警示。MIT副教授卢克范帕里耶斯（LukVanParijs）编造、修改科研数据以及杜撰合作者姓名，最终被发现报道，并被校方开除。这对其他学术研究者是一种警示，要研究上的成功，但首先要诚信。

Some people may cast doubt on the values of scandals about public individuals because they may violate their privacy. However, I believe that in this situation, it's neccessary to reveal their misbehaviors rather than keeping secret because of these people's privacy. 首先，公众人物有责任树立良好形象，如果没有这些丑闻的曝光，行为不端的公众人物会误导大众，让人认为有些不端行为是被容许的。其次，不道德或违法行为本来就该受到惩罚，而对公众人物来说，揭露这些丑闻是惩罚的一部分，不是侵犯了他们的隐私。试想如果向公众公布罪犯的罪状算侵犯他们的隐私权，岂不是法院审理案件时的公审都是一种侵权行为？

自己评价：我把丑闻分为两类：揭露社会问题的丑闻和有关公众人物的丑闻。这两类丑闻因为受到关注都是很有积极作用的。反方向观点的驳斥是自己想出来的，不是说想的有多好，而是我体会到自己想的为什么不这么写，写作文不就是表达自己内心的想法吗？感觉被各种这不能那不许，应该这样应该那样发展思路的条条框框束缚了很久，实际上都没怎么表达过自己的观点。另外不知道最后一段说公审的那个算不算思想实验？感谢老师点评~

It is true that in politics especially senior leaderships, scandals would be useful. But in other fields such as arts and education, frequently scandals could do more harms at the same time.

    First of all, it is can not be denied that scandals in politics could focus our attention on the public servants to see whether they betrayed our trust or not, the senior leaders in particular. 政治家肯定都会扬长避短，尽量把好的一面展示给选民，并掩盖一些信息以维护自己的形象，而一些政治丑闻，则可以很好的将人们的注意力集中到相关的事件上，并积极的做出相关的反应，以维护社会的健康进步。比如说“水门”事件。

    Second, scandals in other fields such as arts and education could sometimes insouciantly destroy the carriers of promising artists` and educators`, thus negatively influence the developments of arts and education. 比如有些艺人吸毒了，媒体紧追不放，不再给艺人第二次机会，甚至要将其彻底摧毁，那样子会毁灭了有才华的艺人，不再能拍摄出优秀的电影，写出大受欢迎的歌曲。教育家的婚外事件，若被大肆报道，可能毁了他的家庭也毁了他的事业，而他在其相关领域里可能是非常专业非常权威的，也培养了不少人才，那么这样一来，肯定也会影响到学术及教育的发展。

    Some people may argues that those social elites should be perfect enough both in lives and works so that they won`t let massive citizens down because their roles are so critically important in this society. 是的，对于政治家是这样，因为他们代表的是所有民众的利益，绝对不允许其违背了民众的意愿，尤其是国家领导人。但，对于其他非公共服务领域的名人，没有必要，毕竟人无完人，而且，其的丑闻一般也不会有那么大的破坏力，而且也不能去过多的侵犯他们的隐私及人权，不应该不给其发展的第二次机会。甚至，有些政治家，在涉及丑闻后，也一样的为国家做了贡献了嘛：克林顿，莱温斯基丑闻事件。
