DAWSON CREEK
Dawson Creek is a community of about 10,000 people in Northern British Columbia. It is located in the Prairie country of BC, the Peace River region. It is situated at Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway and is relatively close to both Edmonton and Prince George.
Surrounded by many lakes, rivers and streams, Dawson Creek and the surrounding area is truly a four season paradise. Spring, summer or fall months provide visitors with great camping, hiking, biking, canoeing, hunting and fishing opportunities. Whether fishing from a lakeshore or a riverbank, you will have many choices. Mountains, valleys and plains give ample space to run, bike, hike or snowmobile. The long summer days average about 18°C for a high and the winter days hover around -16°C.
Within Dawson Creek, there are five elementary schools, one middle school and one senior secondary school. Northern Lights College has a campus in Dawson Creek and they work with the University of Northern British Columbia to offer many different programs.
PEACE CANYON GENERATING STATION
Peace Canyon Dam is located 8 km from the town of Hudson’s Hope in the beautiful Peace River valley of North Eastern BC. This area is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast boasting year round activities including skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, camping, boating, as well as great fishing and viewing many species of the North American big game animals. Hudson’s Hope features great small town living and has a medical clinic, arena and curling rink, elementary-secondary school, and is located 1 hour from Fort St John (north) or 40 min from Chetwynd (south).
PRINCE GEORGE (4 Positions)
Prince George is the largest city in Northern B.C., and has a great balance of a larger centre while surrounded by the great outdoors. Activities can range from hiking, golf, camping and fishing to attending local festivals, music or theatrical performances or visiting heritage sites.
SMITHERS
Smithers is a beautiful town, with a backdrop of Hudson Bay Mountain. Both summer and winter activities attract locals and visitors. Many visit Smithers (and have then moved there) for its beautiful outdoors and local entertainment scene.
SURREY NON-INTEGRATED AREA
The Non-Integrated Area headquarters is in Surrey within the Lower Mainland, offering all the great amenities of being in close proximity of Vancouver. The service area includes B.C.’s
Northern area and West Coast, which does require a fair amount of work travel through some of the most scenic and pristine parts in all of Canada. BC Hydro operates and maintains the systems of small stand-alone (non-integrated) power systems of remote towns and villages throughout the province; these are typically small remote communities distant from the BC Hydro integrated system transmission and distribution lines. The electricity supply to each of these remote communities is produced by a small generating station in the community to supply local demand load. The electricity supply in the NIA is produced primarily by hydroelectric generation, then by Prime Power and Standby Power diesel generation facilities.
