good question. indeed I expect the comments are to be read by other but not only OP.

I will saying indeed the decision highly depends on OP's background and plan. just give a few example:
1. OP had done a international financial management degree, afterwards working in a accounting firm for near 2 year, and now try to leverage the degree to find a job in finance. then a finance degree should be the choice.
2. OP had done a degree in international financial management, and doing some unrelated job for near 2 year, and now try to leverage the degree to find a job in HK, then a accounting degree should be the choice, since accounting have more opening in general.

here I had already missed out the location issue..............

given that OP had provided that little information, no solid advise can be available.

not sure about back in China, but in HK:

1. top 3 or not? yes, then they don't really care too much about which one is it (while for interview, or even general public). one better choose it according the discipline (industry reputation in a certain field also) and quality of program among them.

2. poly/city? they won't care about which one also, unless you get something like PolyU hotel management......HKBU is then a little bit behind.

huge gap between 1 & 2 from the local's view indeed.....because top/large firms in general only pay visits to top 3 while recruitment talks, and have a similar barrier for recruitment also.

不同的排名有不同的排法，有的排名AF 有的排名MBA，有的排名Business。排名看看就好，作为一个选校依据尤其对于回国的同学。主要回国工作还得看综排尤其编制内单位。

yup.....different sector have different view, and refers to different ranking.......

and thus before choosing a ranking to reference to, OP had to state the career goal (which sector, and the location) first.


but I really cannot figure out a reasonable ranking from any measure that will rank CityU business school as 2nd in Asia......

我来解释一下吧.@163所说的不是一家之言，因为这是在大家中所传播的对于PolyU和CityU评价时的印象----认为Poly在香港的口碑会更好一点。这种认知的来源或许是一些从香港学习回来的学生经验所积累下的评价（不确定），这种说法我也从我目前在Poly的同学那里听到过。
City的综排会稍微高一点，但Poly和City是一个档次的学校，我同意OP的选择应该依据以后的职业规划而定。

在CD上CityU的宣传，估计就好比HKU和UST都说自己是第一一样。排名看看差不多就得了

that's a myth, but indeed this comparison is not really meaningful.......i should had passed it indeed....:
1. same tier, precise ranking don't matter much.
2. poly and city have their own specialist subject: the general ranking differ not much, but the difference of them in one certain discipline is certainly clear........i.e. given the subject, the choice will already be clear and thus don't really have to go into the overall one.

应该是UT排的。当然你排名的话就不会这么排了。我不会排名我只会看数据。

yup.

1. I won't stick to one ranking for a certain purpose.
2. the UT-D one is for PhD............totally unrelated for this case.

对啊，只是大家所看的排名不一样罢了。我只是根据数据和宣传资料给OP呈现。
大家比较综排或者学校认可度也是情有可原的，大多数人读书为了工作，鉴于目前在国内好多招聘第一关就是机器筛选，一些单位就会卡世界排名前XX，所以大家理所应当就会比较学校的口碑了。

我晕。。。 没必要太judgemental 啦， 如果能申到前三最好，申不到城大理工都还行。我男朋友（香港人）理工毕业的他也觉得城大商学院挺好的，他哥哥就觉得城大不太行。真心觉得我这几年placed的人选，有理工出来的进花旗的，也有城大进汇丰的（trainee），有很好的branding的外资商行的regional head城大的。。。 所以真的不绝对。最近还见到港大研究生全奖的和牛津商科硕士时运不济进了小破平台的。。。 抛开外资一等一的投行，进商行投资圈个人能力和运气才是王道。。。

上周我还在纠结要不要去城大，投资圈的某老大就建议我果断城大。。。 因为他前女友城大的后来发展的也很好。。。 我感觉论坛上的同学太纠结于排名和名校了。。。 如果想进投行的请认准前三，如若不然只要专业对口个人综合能力强差别没那么大的。。。 我当年中文系的渣背景都去了外资行实习后来就留下了。。。
