Question: Are the M.A. courses the same as the PhD courses?
Steven Olley: The M.A. courses are different courses. Similar material, but different courses. M.A. students are not allowed to register for the PhD courses.
Q: Would core faculty of economics department teach in this program? And can we access what level of content would be covered in the courses?
A: The Fall teaching assignments are not finalized. Instructors will choose their own textbooks, but the content will be at the level of rigor you would expect for a graduate program at Columbia
Q: can students prolong it to 18 months?
A: At this time, the program is limited to three semesters of full time study: Fall, Spring, and Summer. It cannot be extended.
Q: Chances to do research with faculty.
A: Because of the nature of the program and the schedule, it is unlikely that MA students would be able to find research positions with faculty. If you're interested in the PhD program, you should apply directly to that program.

i.e. typical one-year master, like those in UK (and canada). prepare to gap if one plan to apply PhD.
