求问Duke Econ MA以及UBC MA中国学生工作的placement

there was a good post about Job Placement after Duke MA Econ on this Forum, quite recently indeed.........serach for it.....

if one is sure that will go PhD, CEMFI.
if one is sure not go PhD, Forget it.

if one go for Duke MA, the tuition worth it if one can find a Job in US.
if one go to academic afterwards, the $$ dont worth it, as there are better choice.

i.e. the earlier one made up his/her mind, the more clear about the Goal, and thus the better result it will be (either lower cost, better expected Placement, .....and etc)

关于杜克的worth问题那段can't agree more。
你说的那个job placement就是五楼贴的链接吧？那个里面看起来的确很好，只是担心那里面列出来的只是最好的那些结果，中等的、没找到工作的都没有列出来额

而且听说这几年美帝的就业形势还是蛮好的。。

美帝形势还是好的，，不过过两年也说不准，，说不定加了息就坏事了。。:shutup: 不过好工作还是有的是的

只是那个是11年的情况。要是有更recent的就好了。前面那个帖子的主人是第一名，他同届的其它中国学生没看到详说，，只有“其他中国同学： US不错的项目，Tilburg Finance，Brown Waitlist，Simon Fraser，Zurich Waitlist” 这个“不错”想象空间太大呀。

为同样的问题纠结><我从导师那里得到的意见是
读phd的话duke ma可以place到一个不错的地方，duke econ和fuqua都非常棒；只为了在美找工作的话花那么多钱读一个私立学校好像有点没必要，而且还是econ。（导师对duke有非常强的私人偏好）。但问题是duke phd下滑的太厉害，找工作的placement又没有更新。不知道还值不值得读。
望前辈指正~谢谢

actually I consider Duke as a good general solution, but seldom be the best choice given one is sure what wanna do afterwards.....

e.g.
Academic: Duke placement is okay, but not as top as some others like CEMFI and etc.
Working in US: Economics is not the best major to stay (go fina math or any STEM related major la), and the location of Duke is decent but not very good either...
Back to home country: Duke have a good, but not excellent international reputation (for example, not as Columbia), if one is sure than will back home......there're better choice in general, given one can get Duke MA Econ
kind of mixture in between.......high cost as insurance, and if one is really unclear about what to do afterwards, Duke is a nice equilibrium.

Flexibility is the best point of the master: in terms of path afterwards, in terms of course selection.......
[but flexibitliy is nothing if one is very sure what one wants...]

ubc ma找工作很困难吧。我有个高中和我关系很好的同学是ubc本科econ+math，他说温哥华适合养老不适合工作，找工作更容易的是技能型学科。BTW，他没找工作，去了sauder。

my key point is.......before saying which one is better, define the metric first......

if you are not really sure between academics and working, Duke may be an optimal choice.
