Issue36  The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

5。总结

Great individuals usually stand for the highest achievement of the time they live in and also are exemplars for the comers.  When concerning who and when decide their greatness, by those who live after them or by their contemporaries, I do regard it as a case-by-case problem.

From one aspect, some great persons surely have or had been adored at their time by their contemporaries in that their accomplishments are or were valued by them. Somehow, such an esteem they experienced is or was based on the potent effect of their achievements on the society.  As for scientists, what he or she have uncovered or invented should be able to transform the world, or overthrow the past rules, or modify some fallacies in the traditional norms. The law of gravity found by Newton and Einstein’s relativism are both suitable example for this case and then they both won a worldly reverence. As for artists, a wonderful article would be needed, which should either meet the flavor of the present trend or entirely make a break large in enough to be appreciated in skills.  As for politicians, they should devote themselves to a significant work with a large extent influence, then by doing which he would show his prominent capabilities.  For example, Abraham Lincoln was an outstanding politician and as result of his exceptional achievement in the Civil War he encountered a big worship not only from us living today, but also from his contemporaries.

Also, others though great were not so lucky to enjoy the same treatment at their time, but their greatness is recognized by those who live after them ultimately.  Why did they fall under such a both distinctive and unjust treatment? That is because they were somewhat of avant-garde and so their value was beclouded until the society has made a progress and people who living after them can assume the role of their bosom friend.  For instance, not only in poor but also be treated as mad, Von Gogh was almost deserved by his contemporaries. Nobody could understand what the sunflowers and bright yellow appearing in his paintings meant. But now, his every painting valued a high price in the market and his skills are studied exactly by scholars and other artists. That is to say, the greatness of some individuals would be ignored and even be scorned by their contemporaries, so those who live after them are much more eligible to decide their value in this case.

Furthermore, it is unwise to put the society situation away when justifying by which the bigness of individuals can be decide between the contemporaries and the comers,.  Since the society keeps advancing, the standards under which people evaluate greatness are changing correspondingly. As a result, some persons who were treated as heroes or to be omniscient by their contemporaries perhaps are not or partly not today.  What is more, some other factors might influence people’s evaluation, such as the extent of propagation, the limitation of knowledge, obsessive force and even concealed conditions. As an illustration, as more closet historical materials about how he expelled the dissidents appear openly to the public, Stalin has gradually been losing his greatness in people’s mind. It means that neither the remark from the contemporaries nor from people living after is totally impartial enough to be considered as a conclusion. Throwing off the society concrete circumstance and talking about which is to decide the greatness of individuals would be arbitrary and hasty.

In sum, not all great persons could obtain a relevant position at their time, and some of them have to suffer from the covering of their greatness and wait for the comers to reveal and reevaluate their value. Somehow, it is impossible to make such a simply comparison with these cases and draw a conclusion that the bigness is to be decided by their contemporaries or by the comers, since every estimation should be based on the social conditions, which are different many a time.(664 words)

eg 社会对科学家的奖励;人民对政府领导的支持;

Great individuals usually stand for the highest achievement of the time they live in and also are exemplars for the comers. When concerning who and when decide their greatness, by those who live after them or by their contemporaries, I do regard it as a case-by-case problem.

From one aspect, some great persons surely have or had been adored at their time by their contemporaries in that their accomplishments are or were(这么写有必要吗?下同) valued by them. Somehow, such an esteem they experienced is or was based on the potent effect of their achievements on(to) the society. As for scientists, what he or she have uncovered or invented(what his/her contribution) should be able to transform(give development to 因为你所说的改变可以包括好的,也可以包括不好的改变,在这里应该指明是那些正面的变化吧 ) the world, or overthrow the past(inaccurate) rules, or modify some fallacies in (of) the traditional norms. The law of gravity found by Newton and Einstein’s relativism(theory of relativism) are both suitable example(s) for this case and then they both won a worldly reverence.(是否应该强调一下这些reverence是同时代的呢?) As for artists, a wonderful article would be needed, which should either meet the flavor of the present trend or entirely make a break large in enough to be appreciated in skills. As for politicians, they should devote themselves to a significant work with a large extent influence, then by doing which he would show his prominent capabilities. For example, Abraham Lincoln was an outstanding politician and as result of his exceptional(outstanding) achievement in the Civil War(and) he encountered a big worship not only from us living today, but also from his contemporaries.

Also, others though great (persons) were not so lucky to enjoy the same treatment at their time, but their greatness is recognized by those who live after them ultimately. Why did they fall under such a both distinctive and unjust treatment?(这句话什么意思啊?) That is because they were somewhat of avant-garde and so their value was beclouded (我想不是被掩盖吧,而是同时代的人受到一些局限无法理解) until the society has made a progress and people who living after them can assume the role of their bosom friend. For instance, not only in poor but also be treated as mad, Von Gogh was almost deserved(应该换个词吧) by his contemporaries. Nobody could understand what the sunflowers and bright yellow appearing in his paintings meant. But now, his every(each of his paintings) painting valued a high price in the market and his skills are  to studied (carefully studied ) exactly by scholars and other artists. That is to say, the greatness of some individuals would be ignored(不被理解) and even be scorned by their contemporaries, so those who live after(还可以深入地论述一下为什么后人就能够理解了)them are much more eligible to decide their value in this case.

Furthermore, it is unwise to put the society situation away(not taking into the temporary situation) when justifying by which the bigness of individuals can be decide between the contemporaries and the comers,. Since (the) society keeps advancing, the standards under which people evaluate greatness are changing correspondingly. As a result, some persons who were treated as heroes or to be omniscient by their contemporaries perhaps are not or partly not today(说反了吧).

In sum, not all great persons could obtain a relevant position (???) at their time, and some of them have to suffer from the covering of their greatness and wait for the comers to reveal and reevaluate their value. Somehow, it is impossible to make such a simply comparison with these cases and draw a conclusion that the bigness is to be decided by their contemporaries or by the comers, since every estimation should be based on the social conditions, which are different many a time(of great variety).(664 words)

Also, others though great were not so lucky to enjoy the same treatment at their time, but their greatness is recognized by those who live after them ultimately. Why did they fall under such a both distinctive and unjust treatment? That is because they were somewhat of avant-garde(好词) and so their value was beclouded until the society has made a progress and people who living after them can assume the role of their bosom friend. Furthermore, it is unwise to put the society situation away when justifying by which the bigness of individuals can be decide between the contemporaries and the comers,. Since the society keeps advancing, the standards under which people evaluate greatness are changing correspondingly.(这个论点很闪光) As a result, some persons who were treated as heroes or to be omniscient by their contemporaries perhaps are not or partly not today.

For instance, not only in poor but also be treated as mad(好 吸取中), Von Gogh was almost deserved by his contemporaries. Nobody could understand what the sunflowers and bright yellow appearing in his paintings meant. But now, his every painting valued a high price in the market and his skills are studied exactly by scholars and other artists.

From one aspect, some great persons surely have or had been adored at their time by their contemporaries in that their accomplishments are or were valued by them. Somehow, such an esteem they experienced is or was based on the potent effect of their achievements on the society.

The law of gravity大写 found by Newton and Einstein’s relativism相对论可以这样写吗? are both suitable examples for this case and then they both won a worldly reverence. As for artists, a wonderful article可以指艺术作品吗? would be needed, which should either meet the flavor of the present trend or entirely make a break large in enough to be appreciated in skills两者是选择的关系吗?.

Also, others though great were not so lucky to enjoy the same treatment at their time, but their greatness is recognized by those who live after them ultimately这个词偶喜欢. Why did they fall under such a both去掉 distinctive and unjust treatment? That is because they were somewhat of avant-garde不懂这个词 and so their value was beclouded until the society has made a progress and people who living after them can assume the role of their bosom friend.

both and

avant-garde先锋派

For instance, not only in poorpoverty but also be treated as mad, Von Gogh was almost deserved应该的,应得的? by his contemporaries.

另外 我想说语言的严谨是好事 是太抠字眼了 会不会变成弱点??both a bless and a curse
例 what he or she have uncovered or invented should be able to transform the world, or overthrow the past rules, or modify some fallacies in the traditional norms.

take your place in the great circle of life

then they both won a worldly想用worldwide? reverence. As for artists, a wonderful article不太严谨,艺术家不只包括作家呀 would be needed, which should either meet the flavor of the present trend or entirely make a break large in enough to be appreciated in skills后半句没读懂,汗~~~. As for politicians, they should devote themselves to a significant work with a large extent这是名词! influence

but also be treated as madas a madman,因为mad是形容词!, Von Gogh was almost deserved是不是想用抛弃deserted? by his contemporaries.

treat as+宾补,adj.
deserted....

so 这里有因果关系吗? those who live after them are much more eligible to decide their value in this case.

It means that neither the remark from the contemporaries nor that from people living after is totally impartial enough to be considered as a conclusion这一句话说反了,neither…nor..is…,你再读一读?.

As a result, some persons who were treated as heroes or to be omniscient by their contemporaries perhaps are not or partly not today(说反了吧).

not all great persons could obtain a relevant position (???) at their time,
