Appendix: what course is bachelor level? what is master level? what is PhD level?
Sample: I tend to use example out of US for this purpose (as master in US is too rare, while in other country, the level is similar, but there are clearly a master degree for basically all university)
Methodology: cross-university comparison. for some core course, the content are indeed very similar across university (and countries). For a couple of them, even the text book is the same, e.g. Varian for intermediate micro, Romer for macroeconomics at master level (or as adv. macro 1 in PhD year 1), MWG for PhD level micro. The majority of course don't have a book that "unify the river & lake" but if one look into the issue, there are some 3-5 books that always appears.............if one don't want to stick with the book, one can also
go into the syllabus.........
e.g. micro: (intro) supply demand curve, elasticity and etc. (intermediate) quality it with calculus (master / advanced) transformation between the four utility function, to game theory and etc. (PhD) MWG.
financeial economics: (intro) basic NPV, IRR (adv. bacehlor) investment and portfolio management: CAPM, APT, Mean-Variance portfolio (graduate) asset pricing, like micro foundated to prove CAPM, various pricing kernel and discussion about completeness of market (projection
time series: of course have a econoemtrics / regression before, (bachelor) ARIMA, maybe also GARCH, (master) going into various operator and matrix algebra for operation, (adv) bayesian, MCMC method for it.......
<--- very rough but hope reader can feel it
P.S. kind of the academic structure and education curve of certain discipline indeed......if someone had viewed over all the program structure and syllabus before application (for me around 30 programs......), one will have a solid idea about what is a solid / water program. of course one have to concern about the faculty and some other aspect of that too at the same time.
1.
JHU MSF單以學術水平來說, 應該不到master水平. (i do mean basically every course...seems to be at bachelor level)
(這個不只是指JHU的MSF, but basically all MSF in the world, 因為MSF都是for career purpose, 教那麼難/academics沒意思; 想繼續進修/對難度有要求/想幹technical的都去了讀financial economics / financial mathematics了)
這個問題和上面有人說數學不夠是有所相類似的, 有多大影響, 版上談述已久, 不贅.
2. 可以的話, 選微觀. for preparation in financial economics, micro >> macro.
