2016 Fall Econs Master 恳请大家帮帮忙~~~

目标：
1.Econ Master，有奖学金最好，虽然知道希望渺茫~~~
2.世界各地都可以，只是不要那种大农村~~~
3.希望能在毕业后直接找工作，留在那里或者回国都可以~~~

学校背景：财经类高校
专业：经济学
GPA：3.5+

课程：
数分，线代，概率论与数理统计
中级微观，中级宏观，博弈论，国际经济学

G：Q170 V162 AW4.5，
IELTS： overall：7.5

关于文章什么的本科阶段实在是没写什么，只有一些课程的期末论文或者project
research倒是帮助老师做过两个，其中一个是跟着项目，另一个就相当于水水的助研

获奖：人民奖学金
推荐信：院内老师吧 无牛腿

谢谢您~~~能不能再稍微具体一些呢~~最近真的很迷茫呀感觉信息太多自己太无知~~另外奖学金是最好有啦~没有也是没关系的~~~一直再考虑UK和US~~~这方面不知道有没有什么意见呢~~~

US. if you want to stay there for a job, forget about economics. go CS or whatever instead. (I don't mean that master of economics = cannot find a job there, but there is no point to do economics if one plan to find a job there)
The tuition are very high (don't expect for scholarship, and fee is still high even you have tuition waiver), and prepare around USD 70K for tuition alone (if 3 semester) And thus it only worth that if you can get into a famous school (famous back in China) which give you a boost in career such that the ROI will be possible.
Consider Yale IDE, Columbia MA Econ, NYU MA Applied Econ, Michigan Ann Arbor MAE, UCLA MAE. Not sure for a couple school or more like UT Austin...

UK. visa is the main concern. unless you are very well-prepared, getting a job in UK is very difficult (half becoz of visa policy, half becoz of the length of the master). tuition are high, expect around GBP 20K for a year, and don't dream for any scholarship for sure (else the university will eat north-western wind). Have a look into G5.

Canada. the best thing of it is the tuition and the visa policy. the disadvantage is .... well it is Canada, and their program don't really welcome international applicants.

Australia. after thinking again, it seems don't fit you well. the tuition are not cheap, and it only worth it if one plan to move to that for long time (but that why do economics then)

Netherlands. Expect tuition of around EUR 11K for one year. At least people will heard of the city Amstedam and Rotterdam if back China. and the visa policy and language requirement is not really high.

Germany. Given you speak of schloarship all the time, I assumed that you will want to spend as less as possible. So the reason of mention Germany is clear. If you plan to stay there for a job, boost up your Deutsch and intern enough, things should be not difficult. Maybe also can consider a master in Switzerland then go search role in German. The shortcoming is clear also: not much university in Germany are famous back in China. (e.g. Mannheim.....)

France. Similar to Germany, but 1. the stand-alone business school there are stronger and thus dominate more in the job market. 2. the economy.....

I guess it is better to have a more solid career plan (e.g. industry and role preferred), preferred location (stay / back), budget constraint, and etc. before thinking which school to apply.

目前的想法是去证券or咨询之类的~实习也做过几份~~~毕业了总是想回国的~要是有机会在那边工作一两年也可以（不过我还不确定这样对职业生涯好不好~）费用的话RMB 30~40w应该可以 再多的话看值不值得...

证券or咨询之类的 <--- This is far not enough. Which type of role?.....
and indeed finance and consulting don't overlap that much in nature of the role. seldom one can prepare both of them together well. not to mention, different roles in, say finance, can require quite different skills (in additional to the soft one)

毕业了总是想回国的~要是有机会在那边工作一两年也可以（不过我还不确定这样对职业生涯好不好~） <--- depends on industry and role. depends on how much the oversea experience are valued and useful after back. depends on big is difference between the two market.
This is a key question also. "how much you plan to stay for a role" affects on the selection of country...

谢谢~~主要还是想去证券公司~~类似于Quantitative Analyst之类的职业~~~之前的实习只是学到一点皮毛 具体这职位还不是特别了解 但是有这个意向~~~还有不好意思刚才budget constraint打错了-.-

go for a master in  financial engineering / mathematics, or at least a (really quantitative) financial economics, econometrics.

forget about a economics only master.



P.S. and indeed, there are many types of quantitative analyst. Quant analyst dealing with different stuffs do require similar but slightly different skills (applied mathematics + statistics anyway, but this is a big field already).......

Mathematics and economics is actually one of the best (combination of statistics, OR and CS are the rest) preparation for MFE. not much previous course in finance is not a problem at all. (though it seems that you don't have enough adv. math course like stochastic process, PDE, numerical if you plan to go on the Q side) Consider a couple of statistics / econometrics / financial economics master in additional to traditional MFE if you are more interest in the P side rather than Q.

if you have related previous internship, that'll be really helpful.

Which school to apply? well, wish you a good day in browsing and searching the web then....
