Then from your experience or observation, how many USC LLM Graduates stayed in the US to work as Attorney in law firms each year following completion of LLM program ?

I would guess that normally about 75% of our students stay in the U.S. during the Optional Practical Training 1-year visa extension after the LLM program. Those students do internships and other part-time work. Because the OPT visa extension is flexible and easy for employers to utilize, most students find some kind of work.

However, after that one year, I would guess 90% of students return to their home countries. The 10% of students who remain in the U.S. permanently are often times U.S. permanent residents so their work authorization is simpler. It's unfortunately not easy or desirable for employers to expend the resources to employ an international graduate who needs work sponsorship. Of the 10% who stay in the U.S., all have passed a U.S. bar exam as well.

SLE costs $3,900 in tuition, plus housing expenses. Usually about 40% of our LLM students choose to participate in SLE. We recommend it most strongly for students with weaker English skills or for those who need extra help preparing for the LLM program. I hope this helps clarify!

Hi and thanks for your question. I certainly understand your concern, as U.S. higher education is expensive. We offer LLM students opportunities for our Scholar Awards, which are general merit-based scholarships, as well as our Global Awards, which are specific to various countries/regions (for example, we have an award only for Chinese students). When you apply to the program, you are automatically considered for all scholarships, so you don't have to do anything additional. When you receive an admission decision, you will also receive scholarship information if you are provided with an offer for an award. None of our scholarships cover full tuition. Regardless of our awards, most students seek various forms of funding. On our website, we have a link to a list of various outside scholarships you might consider applying for as well. The university also offers a payment plan so that you can split your tuition payments into smaller monthly installments, which can sometimes be easier to pay. Hi Anne,

It seems quite attractive from the brochure of your online LLM program that :

* Under the State Bar of California’s current guidelines, those with an online master’s degree from an ABA-approved law school may be deemed eligible to meet the academic qualifications required to sit for their bar exam. Our students will have the opportunity to take courses to meet the qualifications to sit for the California Bar exam.


May I know about the examination pattern of your online LLM program?

- simply submission of finished essay by uploading or by email
- online examination within fixed time framework

(i.e. traveling to USC campus is not required throughout the entire program of studies)

Hi and thanks for the question via Wechat. I'm not entirely sure what the question is addressing, but I can tell you that we take applications into consideration as a whole. Students with lower GPAs can have their applications improved by work experience. There is no guarantee that work experience will completely outweigh poor grades, but it will certainly help. I recommend stating all of that in the personal statement - that you recognize your grades are lower but that your work experience is extensive and includes x, y, z.

Hi and thanks for your question. For our Online LLM program, the courses are 100% online. There is no travel to USC required. Exams are handled differently per each instructor. Some give timed online exams, some require papers in lieu of final exams, others have different kinds of projects.

Hi and thanks for your question. We consider all applications as a whole, so I would recommend applying to our program. I would encourage you to try to strengthen other parts of your application - make sure your TOEFL and letters of recommendation are strong. In your personal statement, I recommend mentioning that you realize your GPA is slightly low but that your other application materials are strong. Good luck!
