Hi and thanks for your question. We have lots of student activities, both in the law school and at the university in general. I would encourage you to consider both so that you can both get to know fellow law students who will become your colleagues, as well as students from different subjects. As a large university, USC has lots to offer. The problem will be deciding where to focus your interests!

Hi and thanks for your question. We accept applicants who have work experience and those who don't. It will not hurt your application if you do not have full-time work experience. Instead, I would recommend highlighting (in your resume and personal statement) your internship experience, which is certainly still work-related experience. Our LLM class is comprised of many students with work experience and many without.

Hi Anne, thank you for your time. I am really eager to be part of yours. For now, I have a 88 score of TOEFL and my GPA is 3.49. But I am lack of internship experience. What should I do to make up my shortage for my application? Do you have any suggestion about my PS writing? Thank you very much!

Hi and thanks for your question. For logistical information, schools' websites are definitely the best resource. Schools no longer publish information elsewhere - we really only put information on our websites.

However, for personal information, I strongly recommend connecting with alumni from the programs in which you are interested. Any LLM administrator should be able to connect you with alumni of their program from your home country. For USC, please feel free to email us at gipadmissions@law.usc.edu to request contact information for our alumni. Those who have completed the LLM before you, or are currently enrolled, always have great insight for prospective students.

Hi Serena and thanks for your question. Congratulations on your great GPA! While we don't have a minimum TOEFL score, yours is slightly lower than our average. In order to make your application more competitive, and to make up for your lack of internship experience, I would recommend that you consider retaking the TOEFL if you can. In the meantime, you can certainly submit your application if you'd like - and just mention to us that you plan to retake the TOEFL and if you'd like us to wait to review your materials until then.

For your personal statement, I recommend making sure your English is really strong. Make sure you edit it over and over again so that you can prove that your written English is strong. Be sure to write about why you are pursuing an LLM degree, why you want to USC specifically, and what you plan to do after graduation. Do not simply repeat your resume/CV as we can read that document on our own. Provide us more details that make you stand out as an individual candidate.

How admission board evaluate a master's degree of Japanese law shool? I may not directly apply for a JD degree of US but study in Japan before that. Thank you.

Thank you very much! Just as you said, right now I am still preparing for next coming TOEFL exam on 12th December, I will try my best to make it. Could you please tell me what's your average performance of TOEFL? I will follow your suggestion to submit my application in the following 10 days after I revise my PS again. And I hope you could give me the chance to review my materials with my update TOEFL score.

Any kind of internship experience is great! While not required, it will supplement your application. It doesn't matter what type of internship experience you have, just be sure to accurately describe why it helped supplement your undergraduate education.
