Issue31:"Money spent on research is almost always a good investment, even when the results of that research are controversial."
I agree with the first half of the speaker's assertion that in most cases, we can enjoy the benefits from investing on research. Yet, as the characteristic of research it is, unexpected and unpredictable results of it are an indispensable factor that we should take into account before we undoubtedly consider it as a good investment.[第二句的观点表示的不是很明确。“结果”是要被考虑的因素,似乎否定得很软弱、模糊]
Admittedly, research is a significant procedure for us human beings to explore the unknown, after which we always have a clearer picture of the nature world, or at least take further steps to [into] a scientific field. Indisputably, through the research of history, we have benefited a lot from making the same fatal mistakes that our ancestors had committed[这句丢词了? 丢了否定词?]; through the research of civilization, we have had the access to understand those great thinkers' thoughts; through the research of science, we are likely to order a robot to do the housework instead of us and so forth. Understandably, without those various kinds of research, we might remain naive and primitive in many aspects in the life. In other words, we can safely spend our money in the research of the kind that has been proved uncontroversial and beneficial.[body1主要论证了research的重要性,但是结尾总结到了invest,并且限定了“物争议&有益的”research,感觉跟整个body有偏差。
However, when it presumably comes to a controversial result of some research[research with controversial results,否则后面的it将指代result而不是research], neither can we invest our money on it cursorily nor think of it as a good investment immediately, even over a long period of time[body2的TS句很明确,也很漂亮]. After all, the original aim of the researchers is, to a large extent, to gain the corresponding profit, [and] at the same time, through exploring the unknown to better develop the present achievement. Accordingly, research is something like a treasure-seeking map, which suggests a hidden surprise or something undiscovered while do[do?] existing in the world. Such is human nature that people who happen to own it[it指代不明] crave to benefiting [benefit] much from it. Yet, the costs we might undertake, the risk we might run and whether the so-called "treasure" really exists are the important factors we should take into account before we set out exploring the unknown. What is more, we are also not sure of the exact time we will cost while pursing the "treasure". Possibly, after devoting huge amounts of money and time, we only find the map turn out to be a sheer joke, and what the treasure-seekers finally find is nothing but a pile of shabby toys, how could we consider it worth our exerting? 下面再说] Similarly, if the research we input with much only turn out to be a potential threat to our life or meanwhile causes some new problems difficult for us to deal with, such as the hot debating of the use of clone technology on human, could [if从句没有虚拟,这里是不是应该用can] we remain unregretful about our investing? Still, some people might argue that instead of achieving the original goal, the treasure-seekers, or the researchers, probably meet with some other impressive results or receive the unexpected benefits while pursuing their aims. Nevertheless, compared with the more important results, unexpected harvests, in most cases, are tiny and weigh less[这是一个没有根据的结论]. Thus, the results of research are obviously indispensable factor we should consider before we decide to invest our money to support the research. Otherwise, disagreeable and controversial results of research, in a sense, will mean a waste of money and energy, even a fatal threat to human.
To conclude, the rapidly developing world needs continuous researches for the reason that we have benefited a lot from the positive results they have brought to us. At the same time, we should not ignore the possibly controversial results of them[这个them指代上句的research? 结果又好又坏?], for the original aim of research will fail to achieve, even be distorted[这一句似乎已经默认了所有的研究初始目的都是好的,不符合实际情况]. In the final analysis, taking more comprehensive consideration before spending money on research, can we make the one we invest into a good investment.[从开头段到结尾段对于“有争议”的研究的态度都很含糊,只是在强调“要考虑”,但“考虑的结果”——“是否应当投资”,一直没有表明!]
