------题目------
The following memo appeared in the newsletter of the West Meria Public Health Council.
'An innovative treatment has come to our attention that promises to significantly reduce absenteeism in our schools and workplaces. A study reports that in nearby East Meria, where fish consumption is very high, people visit the doctor only once or twice per year for the treatment of colds. Clearly, eating a substantial amount of fish can prevent colds. Since colds are the reason most frequently given for absences from school and work, we recommend the daily use of Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, as a good way to prevent colds and lower absenteeism.'
------正文------
In this memo the author recommends that the people of the West Meria should daily use Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, to prevent colds and lower absenteeism. To substantiate it the author points out a report of East Meria that shows high fish consumption make great contribution to the lower colds, which reduces the possibility of absences from school and work. A careful examination of this memo reveals how groundless it is.

First, it is no evidence in this memo to confirm the assumption that eating a substantial amount of fish can prevent colds and the lower colds in East Meria should be owing to the high fish consumption. It is entirely possible that the atmosphere in East Meria is so good and the temperature of East Meria is so constant that people in East Meria is less easy to catch cold than other regions. Without ruling out this or other possibilities it is not necessary to assert above assumption.

Second, even if eating more fish can benefit us to prevent colds, it is not reasonable to conclude that this method that works well in East Meria could be also applied to the West Meria. Maybe people in the West Meria are so sensitive to fish that more consumption of fish would decrease their resistance to virus, and adversely make people more easily to catch cold. So the author fails to consider the possibility such as the one mentioned above.

Third, even if the high fish consumption could significantly reduce colds, we could not overlook its side effect with daily use of Ichthaid. While daily use of Ichthaid reduce the possibility of catching cold, it is possible that daily use of Ichthaid will result in superfluous absorption of some elements, the danger of fish bone penetrating in throat and so on.

Finally, the author builds his recommend on the unwarranted assumption that eating more fish will reduce colds, thus it will decrease the possibility of absences from school and work. There are many other reasons could rise the possibility of colds, thus although eating more fish could prevent colds, without considering other factors such as temperature diversity that could result in more treatment of colds it is not reasonable to conclude that eating more fish will consequentially reduce absenteeism in our schools and workplaces.

In conclusion, this memo is not convincing as it stands. To strengthen this memo the author should provide more evidence to prove the high fish consumption is the main reason of lower colds. Moreover, analysis of the similarity of two regions is also necessary to confirm the conclusion.

------正文------
Merely based on a series of unwarranted assumption and dubious evidences, the arguer comes to the conclusion that the use of Ichthaid can reduce the absenteeism in our schools and workplaces, it also can prevent colds. On the surface, the argument appears to be somewhat logical, actually, however, the argument does not provides compelling support making the argument sound and suffer from several critical flaws as follows.

To begin with, the arguer asserts the colds are most usually reason for absences from school and work and the lower rate of absenteeism will occurs follow the colds heavily reduction . But the argument has not any evidence to support this connection, it is completely possible that the colds is just the excuse for people to leave, the actual reasons perhaps are involved in tiresome, fatigue and laziness, so, even though the colds are well prevented, the people will say they have a pain on the leg, they suffer from a sever headache, and so forth, accordingly, they are still unlikely to go to school and work.

In addition, another flaw the arguer made lies in the relationship between fish consumption and the times go to doctor to treat colds. Is it really useful to reduce the frequency of cold by eating highly fish? I almost eat fish everyday, but I still need to visit doctors for cold! Is it not just a custom for East Meria?  Furthermore, the less times to go to hospital does not mean the less times to catch a cold, perhaps most of the people catching a cold want to deal with it at home to save money, perhaps they want to go to hospital, but the busy work make it impossible, also perhaps they know this cold will not do much business with his or her healthy, in order to present they are still ill so that need not to work and study, they are deliberate not to treat it in hospital . In a word, the argument does not contain sufficient indication to arrive the conclusion that eating a great deal of fish will reduce the rate of cold.

Even though the highly eating fish can prevent cold in East Meria, the same result will not exist in the West Meria. Different places have different corporeity, maybe the people in West Meria is sensitive to fish, they will become more vulnerable result from eating fish, and finally more easy to be cold.

Last but not least, the arguer suggests that people should use a substance called Ichthaid everyday, since this matter derived from fish oil. Though it is true that eating fish will prevent colds, but it does not imply the fish oil has equal efficacy to treat cold. Perhaps it is very the fish oil that do harm for preventing colds. Without a careful examination, we can not accept the arguer's recommendation; after all, it is relative to our health.

In summary, this argument is not persuasive as is stands, to making it more convincing , the arguer should provide more information about the real reason for absence and some results of research on the fish concerning its constitutes and what the function of each constitutes of fish..
